it seems i'm reading some conflicting info on the ishapores - some say they were designed for limited .308 use, because of the weak receiver design, and soft steel. therefore, they wouldn't be up to military service anymore.
others say they were made from a high grade steel, were well built, and hold up just like an original military .303.
what's the story? I'd like one, but I run and hide when I hear things like "limited use", and "they won't hold up".

i really want a .308, but should i just get an original in .303? if i do, which is the strongest and most durable of the designs?

thanks for helping the newbie.

What clown said they are made of soft steel and limited use?

They weren't built until 1960's and the steel in them is better than the older .303 weapons. No Ishapore is in danger of blowing up or breaking shooting 7.62 Nato rounds. They are quite thick and the bolt has a lug that goes down the entire side of the bolt.

I shoot one and have no concern what so ever about my safety. If you can get the mag to feed, (you'll probably have to tweak the feed lips and adjust the angle of the mag follower) they are very fast and reliable. Not necessarily tack drivers but they are combat grade accuracy.
