The word is they will be producing it, using .268 bullets in the Yugo PRVI brass.

For those of you not aware of this, this will be the most accurate and reliable 6.5 Carcano ammo, since the Winchester-Western ammo which Oswald used.

The reason? Norma and PRVI-Partizan both use .264 diameter bullets from the Swedish Mauser.

Guess I'll have to pick up a couple of these fine rifles now myself.

You'll love them, Redstar, especially the M38 Short Rifle and the TS or Cavalry Carbines. They all shoot acceptibly with even battle sights calibrated to 200 meters and the grossly inaccurate but cheap Prvi Partizan ammo. They have really grown on me and I now own 3 short rifles, and 2 carbines. Both carbines are Berettas and have beautiful bores and are both quite accurate. Two of my Short rifles have the crossed rifle accuracy stamp on the barrel, too.

BTW, here's the thread where Dave Emary of Hornady Bullets (and a Carcano enthusiast) announced the new bullet and cartridge (His handle is DEMARY):

Alexander, who posts as Carcano is the main author of the Carcano Homepage and a new member of our forum, too. He is a great new addition, IMO.

How much will the new ammo cost? I had a carbine years ago that the pawn guy sold to me as a German mauser, but when I researched it and discovered what it was I took it back to him for a refund...wish I had kept it now. It was a beautiful little weapon and I loved the way that it cycled...very smooth.

I am not sure the price. Prvi Partizan Carcano ammo can be had for $15 a box which is about as cheap as Carcano ammo gets. Norma can go for as much as $33, but usually hangs around $25 at gunshows. I assume it will split the difference, but hell, for American made ammo, I ain't bitching. I almost spend that in gas just getting to the rifle range lol.

Plus, the Carcano is a surprisingly accurate rifle, and with this ammo, will really be a challenge to shoot for good groupings. The bullets will be 160 grain Hornady roundnose, the same that type and shape of bullet Europeans have used to hunt large game in Africa for many years with the Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5X54 sporting rifle.

Carcano carbines make for great lightweight compact rifles which are extremely easy to take camping/hiking/fishing, and enough round to handle up to Black Bears and most Brown (Grizzlies). Plus, they hold a total of 7 rounds, with six in the clip and one in the chamber.

I highly recommend them to any of you interested in getting maybe the coolest short rifles and carbines made during WWII.
