President Clinton, in his infinite wisdom and high moral leadership, stopped the importation of firearms and parts from the People's Republic of China (PRC) during January 1999.
So, if you have a Chinese made rifle or a US made B-West rifle, then you should buy some spare parts for your Chinese part using rifle. You cannot generally use EastEuropean parts. The dimensions generally are different.

Just concentrate on those parts that take a beating. The Kalashnikov is a very durable rifle in addition to being one of the most reliable self-loading design.
Must Have parts:
1. Extractor with associated parts, such as retaining pin and spring.
2. Firing pin with associated parts.
*Note: East European parts will fit and work in the Chinese rifles.
Next Tier of parts to have:
1. Hammer
2. Bolt
3. Trigger
4. Disconnector
5. Hammer Spring
*Note: Even in this category, most European parts will also fit and work.
Next Tier
1. Hammer axis pin
2. Trigger axis pin
*Note: These pins will be specific to the Chinese receivers as the receivers are of somewhat different dimensions compared to the European pins.
Next Tier
1. Spare Barrel
2. Gas Piston
Note: Many have fired many tens of thousands of parts without ever having anything break. The decision is up to you.
Wonderful!! I just purchased an Norinco MAC-90. I'm rather unfamiliar with the weapon. What parts do you suggest stocking up on since our wonderful President did this.
Thank you sir for your knowledge and help. I will heed your advise.

The import of parts and guns was stopped several YEARS ago. This Jan 1999 stuff is all part of the distributors plan, with y2k, to pump up prices and sales. Sales have been slooooow since 94 and they see this as a way to make a quick buck. Expect shortages soon, along with high prices! I predict things will get cheaper and more plentifull after jan 1 Y2K. Remember the Gas shortage of 73 and 79 and the primer shortage of 93-4. Buy now or wait till next year. H.M. P.S. Get the Chineese stuff now as it is really proabally getting pretty short from several years ago.
I heard an interesting rumor today..unknown if its true but lets hope so. Norinco is rumored to be building a plant in Mexico...hehe NAFTA. Has anyone else heard the same?

Hey, last time I went hunting it WAS with an AK. Okay, it was a Valmet M76 in 5.56mm.
First-generation Aimpoint. Jackrabbit resting 175 yards away (Here, they jump and run when you're between 80 and 50 yards away). Offhand. Dead bunny.
And the day got even better after that!
Time to bring another old post forward....just for remembrances.....

I always wondered about that. We have Bulgarians making AKs in America after they were restricted them from importation. The U.S. is the biggest civilian firearms market in the world. The Chinese aren't going to sit by and not go after our dollars.
If you look at Marstar's Website from Canada, they are a Norinco Importer, and have a full line of Norinco Handguns, I am talking nice one's not Tokarev's Even the new Chinese Army Pistol, however I am not sure which one it is. They cannot import into the U.S. however, I am not sure how any one would ever be able to sell Norinco items once again in the U.S. Paul

Well, if they are fully made in Mexico or Canada, then they can come in thru NAFTA....I think that's the way it goes, since the Clinton ban was on Norinco stuff only, so it'd be okay as long as Norinco setup a different brandname outside of China. Come to think of it, what of the parts? Could barrels and bolts, etc be imported? They aren't considered guns, I wonder if the ban was on "everything" related to guns.
Now this is one of the oldest thread I've seen. :D

China has been setting up maufacturing of different products throughout Latin America for several years now. We do know that shipments of Chinese made weapons have also found their way to Latin American countries and drug dealers. I can't see China though, setting up a weapons plant with the sole purpose of supplying the Western Hemisphere. There would be too much political backlash. Far easier to send an occasional ship or 2 into some quiet little Mexican port. Anyone remember that Chinese ship they found in S.F. bay that had 2 million guns on it- including fully auto AK's. That was long after the 1994 ban.
Even if NAFTA allowed importation into the U.S. , how long would it be and how hard for the Bush Jr. to sign an executive order stopping it. There would be a lot of political pressure to do so. They could play up the weapons going to "terrorists" ploy.

Whoa I didn't realize how old a thread this one is. :D Y2K, now that's a term I haven't heard forever! :D
With all the terrorism stuff going on, it'd be too simple to restrict imports of anything.
