I have a MAK90 sporter with what looks like a threaded barrel. Are these threads? the slant cut compensator that I just bought doesn't fit these but it is made in Hungary-are the Chinese ones different?
Mike V.
No they are not threads just machining marks.
You have three opitions get a set screw type muzzle brake or thread it for 1/2x28. Call Tapco and get ak-74 type muzzle brake for ar-15(1/2x28)or any other ar-15 brake. Or get adapter for 1/2x28 to 14x1mm. Then silver soider or tack wield it.

Why do I have to thread it for an adapter? Can't I just thread the barrel itself to 14:1? Just wondering.

The barrel was threaded 14x1mm and the threads were cut off.(I will pause while your thinking....) You have to use a smaller die and 1/2x28 is smaller. It is the size that adapters and many styles of brakes are made in.
14mm x .03937 = .55118 inch your barrel is no longer .55118 in diameter it should be close to 1/2=.500 inch.
