View Full Version : German Bayonet mounting

I bought a German Bayonet at the end of last year. It caught my eye because of the electric fence cutting capabilities and overall style. I have recently aquired a NHM91. The barrell O.D. fits the ring on the bayonet, but the NHM91 lacks the mechanism that latches the bayonet onto the barrell. I am wondering if there are any places that sell this piece, or if it was machined onto the German AK. As far as I can tell, the bayonet fits perfectly onto the barrell even with the bipod attached. There is a push-button release on the handle of the bayonet. Any info on this problem would be appreciated. Thankx.

Thankx for the info, I did not know of this law. Atleast I still got a cool knife.

If you have an NHM91, than it is a post-ban rifle and has had the bayo lug permanently removed to survive importation. The bayo lug on an NHM seems superflous to me, however, given the barrel length, but it has some merit for trench warfare (to keep the muzzle out of the dirt as you pivot it out to the firing position).
In any case, the bayo lug on pre-ban models of AK are machined into the bottom half of the front sight mount and feature two sliding 'rails' that mount the rear of the bayo. The front is supported by the barrel, as you've mentioned. It is illegal to install a bayo lug to a post-ban rifle according to Section 922r, so you're stuck with a non-attachable bayonet. Fixing this bayonet may be a federal violation, however, so you'd probably be safe to *not* attach it or formulate means to attach it.
Some of the pre-ban guns have spike or blade bayonets that can be pivoted on their front-sight mount and are highly functional. Hope this helps.
Hello LockNLoad,
My Pre-ban Poly-Tech has a folding spike bayo on it and it can even be used as a monopod while shooting from the prone position, love it!
You might want to wear the bayo that you bought on your belt and use it if needed or save your pennies for a pre ban AK. You do have a pretty nice bayo though!
