I found a MK90 for $350.
Can someone tell me more about the MK90?
Is it like an AK-47?
I have a review that says that they are not
high quality.

That is a ok price for a mac-90 depending on what shape it is in.I have seen then going for about 400 at the store's and show's here in Washington.Buy one now if you can because the price will be going up very fast.I have had several mac-90's and they shoot great, but not as good as the slr-95.With a compact 4x scope they are a pretty good paper grinder.Only 6-month's to Y2K.Have fun.
Mak 90s like all but the very first AKs brought into the country are clones. They are a fairly pure clone, with classic AK looks (excluding the godawful thumbhole which I am assuming this one is a postban for 350). Not bad guns functionally but they do have finish problems and often rust easily from my experience. They take all AK magazines though I have heard some of the milled reciever maks are awful tight when it comes to eastern block mags. I would pay from 250 to 350 at todays market for one depending on condition. I recommend if you really want an AK you buy it now the dealers are raising the prices on them every day, and dont forget to get an adequete supply of magazines and drums before they skyrocket much more. Best of luck

The newer inexpensive Romaks won't take standard AK mags, they're restricted to special proprietary (and expensive!) 10rd mags. Get the Mk90... Tomac

Hmmm. Something came to my mind when thinking about the new Romak 99's (low-capacity only sporters). According to the law, it is illegal to manufacture new magazines of greater than 10-rounds. However, it is 100%-legal to modify an existing high-cap magazine to work in another firearm. Therefore, what modifications are necessary to make an standard AK 30-rd mag fit inside these sporters? Not to modify the receiver, but to modify the mags themselves, which is totally legal and kosher. Here is a niche that might need some enterprising soul with access to a machine shop to fill and make some bucks. Personally, I don't have either the motivation, money, or skills to modify mags, but if it could be done and change a 15-dollar E-German mag into a Romak 99 mag for say, 40 bucks, it's very competitive with the expensive 10-rounders, no?

You could probably do the USA Mags trick: saw off the tops of the two types of mags then weld the bottom of a 30 rder to the top of a 10 rder.

If you weld the two mag pieces together be sure to weld some extra aluminum to it or when you load it it will tear itself apart. If it works at all.
I don't know about the Romak magazines but all of the metal AK mags that I have seen are steel, not aluminum.

Imp
Aluminum ak mags are rare even in third world counties. I brought mine into this country before bush started banning things. I told the guy to use aluminum because it is lighter than steel. weld more steel on already hevy mags seams stupid to me. I currently carry a modified ak-74 because it weighs about 2 pounds lighter than my normal ak-47's
Cool. I didn't even know there was such a thing as aluminum Ak mags. I understand your point about the weight. Maybe I misunderstood you but I don't know of any technique that allows steel to be welded to aluminum. He would have to use the same material as the mag in order to join or brace them if welding was involved. I am sorry if I am missing what you said.

no need to worry imp. I've traveled around alot and found a lot of stuff for the ak. aluminum ak mag were feilded in russia
in an effort to reduce the soilder's over all weight. they were quicky scrapped. I found mine laying in the street in east german and brought it back as a souvinier.
