I'm thinking of filing down the rear sight of my 98/22 so I can shoot at 100 meters. Currently, the sight's lowest setting is for 300 or 400 meteres it shoots really high at 100 meters.

I'm considering either filing down the uderside of the sight leaf so it rests closer down to the rifle, or possibly making the V-notch a little deeper. If I could find a taller front sight that would fix the problem, but that's unlikely.

Has anybody ever tried this before?

Brownells has replacement front sight blades that are taller. You can file it off if it's too tall. They're $14 plus $3.25 shipping.
