Hi all,

I have an NHM91 and would like to change the barrel to a MAK90. The NHM is too long for my liking.

I have a MAK90 parts kit with the barrel / upper receiver, gas piston / bolt carrier and bolt. It looks like this assembly is attached with three pins that are peened over like rivets. I assume the rivets must be chopped off to remove the current barrel... is this the case?

Also, in attaching the new upper receiver / barrel, is there friction pins that can be used to replace the peened pins? Any source on standard pins if not?

All comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! By the way, this is a great site! I posted this question on the AR15 boards and was refered here, so I'm an AK-47.net newbie.

Happy Shooting!

I wouldnt mess with it the long barrel is what makes those guns distinctive to me. Is it milled or stamped I have heard the milled barrels are really easy to change but have never done it personally. Maybe your best bet would be to try to make a deal with a dealer on a trade for a mak 90. Sorry I coulnt help more.

Fritz, why mess up a good gun, either swap it off to someone who might like long and get yourself a short ak. I love my nhm 91, great gun.

Jimbob & Zero,

You are right! The more I looked at the MAK90 upper, I could see that this would be no easy task. I'm spoiled after swaping assemblies on my AR.

I guess my biggest comlaint is that the stock is too short for the barrel... bad balance. Anyone know where long wood stocks (No thumb hole) are available for stamped receivers?

Thanks for the input & Happy Shooting!
