I recently entered the world of AK's with a SAR-1 (2001 Model). It came with a great trigger out of the box (5.5 lbs. with a very crisp release) and a high comb that was suitable for the Cobra sight I installed on it. I was so impressed with the acuracy and shootability of this "bottom grade" AK that I thought I would be thrilled if I bought a "top shelf" AK.
I received my SA-M7S today, and I was more than a bit disappointed. The gun is much better finished than my lowly SAR-1 and the action cycles buttery smooth. The trigger is tremendously creepy and is probably the worst single stage trigger that I have ever fired. It is light, but you pull the triiger through a 1/2" arc and have no "stage" or other indication the sear is about to let off. The UZI I owned ten years ago had a crisper trigger.
Additionally the comb on the stock of my SAR-1 is higher and more suitable for scope use. The added drop on my M7 stock makes me put the bottom of my chin on the stock, kind of like scoping an AR with a mount over the hand grip - if you have ever tried that you will know what I mean. If you pay the added money and specifically order a scope mounted SA-M7S, you should in my opinion receive a stock with a contour more suitable for scope use.
At this point, with 40 rounds through the gun, I am seriously debating selling it.
