A little disapapointed. I've seen others whom received theirs and it is better condition than this one. I guess I don't have Neilwest's luck. I would rate this as a good, not vg to excellent as advertised.
I think I need to call Aim to see what they say. I was going to keep it and work on the stock but the clincher on sending it back to AIM is because the barrel is lightly pitted.

My 80.00 K-31 from AIM was in better condition and costs less.

Blueing is pretty good, wood is decent. Take a look at the photos and let me know if I'm correct in justifying to send it back to AIM.

Actually that looks a lot like the first one I got from them. It looked like the UPS guy dragged it behind his truck for a few miles before he got to my house. Since I live about 1250 miles from the nearest UPS center, I wasn't about to send it back. I e-mailed AIM and let them know that I was just going to have to keep on buying them until I got a good one. Oddly enough, that approach seemed to work. The second one was much better than the first. Actually, it looked unissued. After about 6200 coats of BLO and some touching up on the blueing, the first one didn't look too bad either. I managed to sell it for $8.00 more than I bought it for. I figured that is about $1.25 per hour in labor--about what I make at work. The AIM people really do seem to be good people.

Yeah the wood looks pretty grimy. The blue and bolt look VG though. If it's pitted though I would probably send it back. Is the pitting in the bore or outside? Especially send it back if it's the bore.

If you should decide to keep it I don't think it's a lost cause. Some good cleaner will take that dirty cosmo out of there and you will have what looks to be fairly decent wood underneath. You could reoil it with some boiled linseed oil.

That rifle looks about how a couple of rifles I've gotten looked that I decided to keep instead of going through the hassle of shipping back. I really hate to send stuff back though, major pain in the ass IMO. I can't tell from the pics but it doesn't seem to have major dings or gouges so thats a plus. Looks like a borderline on shipping back due to the hassle. A disappointment though and I think you'd be justified in returning it since it has pitts.

Probably has matching numbers right? Another plus if they all match not just bolt and receiver.

Bottom line is can you live with it or rather not live with it?

PS- That rifle has a fair to good probability of having seen combat over there in the civil wars so thats something to consider too. Most of the better condition ones wearnt ever used I dont think.

PSs- did you get a cleaning rod? Can't tell.

Not much cosmo, these photos were taken pretty much out of the box. I wiped it down a little with a paper towel. Which leads me to believe this one perhaps weren't in storage and used.

The pitting is inside the bore about 8 inches near the breech.
# match, including the stock and floorplate. It also has a cleaning rod.
Did I get spoiled by the K-31?
Anyone else out there recieved their M48A with slight pitting in the barrel?

I'd send it back....I paid $10 for a handpick and didn't get what I paid for....Aim however gave me store credit for the handpick and the gun WAS VG and a bargain for $99.....Yours sounds like a definite send back...Sorry to hear it...That seems to be the chance we take buying by mail.

That stock looks like hell.I would not accept any sort of pitting or corrosion in a barrel for a firearm rated Very Good to excellent.Send it back.Go get what you payed for.I have found AIM does you good if you are persistant. It took them a while but they paid shipping back and shipping on a new one to me(Yugo SKS).Talk to Bryan he should take care of you.:D

Did I get spoiled by the K-31?

I don't think so. A pitted bore should go back IMO.

I got a good condition M48 from Century and it had a slightly pitted bore. I kept it though because it was only $59 and was already a replacement for the first one I sent back because the bore was completely rusted out on the first one.

Give them a call and tell them you want a better rifle.

Just got off the phone with AIM, I'll be sending it back.

I told them I don't mind paying for the return postage but they
have to send me a handpick, they said okay.

That looks and sounds about the same as the one I got from Aim. I've been mulling over whether to send it back or not. I also dislike the hassle of return shipping. I don't mind redoing the wood but the pitted bore is a problem. Maybe I'll just ask for my money back and wait until Cole's gets more of those nice ones with the blonde wood.
