Norinco hunter is a neat AK varient it has a milled receiver with two screws and a bracket that secure the top cover. It has a Saiga style trigger mounted rearward in the receiver,as a result,a standard ak pistol grip can't be used on the rifle. This rifle will accept all 7.62x39 AK drums and mags.and the wood isn't bad looking either. This sporter version functions just like any 7.62x39 pre or post-ban hicap AK and as for a price I would guess between 225 and 350. I have heard of them asking 350 plus ,new in box, at gun shows and I saw one for 389 at a local gun shop last month. Enjoy the rifle and buy lots of magazines and ammo.
Hello Jesse,
I owned one of these rifle a few years back and I was impressed.
The only complaint that I had was the long trigger reach and it was very hard to get at the gas block for cleaning.
Congrats on your new rifle.
Tapco was selling a complete trigger group replacement parts set for the Hunter and I recomend getting one. WWW.TAPCO.COM (http://WWW.TAPCO.COM)
Take care, OUT in Vegas

There were two variations imported that I have seen one with the receiver mounted sights and one with sights mounted in the normal AK style.

I had one with the reciever type sights about six years ago.Needless to say the reciever cover wiggled,so the sight wiggled.I got rid of it.The ones that I have examined with the sights mounted in the more conventional AK manner seemed to be a more nicely made rifle throughout,I wouldn't mind owning one.Kind of a neat concept actually,a rifle designed for sporting/utility purposes that can make the grade as a combat weapon.

I have the Norinco Hunter. The weapon seems to be well built. Sights are mounted on the trunion block. The weapon shoots good out to 150 yards with the open sights, so i am not afraid to hunt with it or use it as a combat weapon.

They are a neat little gun. Sort of an oddball in the AK world, well at least till the line of saigas popped up. Hoping to run across a decent one in the $250 to 325 range at the next gunshow. Only one I have seen in a long while was above $400 used to much for the gun in my opinion but I guess the markets dictate such.

I am the lucky owner of 2 such AK Hunters. The first one I bought came with 2-5 round mags and 1-30 rounder. It has a very long trigger reach from the buttstop grip. I also had a conventional AK mag release. The second one I bought (from the same dealer, both under $200, of course that was over 10 years ago) had a shorter trigger reach, the buttstock grip had been moved up a bit. It came with 3-5 rnd. mags. It had a SKS style mag release. Both came with a scope and side mount for the drilled and tapped milled receiver. The mount and the 4X scope were crap but the rifles themselves weren't bad. They are kinda ugly, crude, and heavy compared to conventional rifles, certainly not very refined. On the other hand, they go bang every time and are reasonably accurate in a general kind of way.
I also have a couple of MAK90s, post bans. I thought the Hunters would make a good match and are certainly more politicaly correct. I've taken them to ranges that do not allow "assault rifles" and fired them with no problems other than a few strange looks.
