just purchased a mak 90. no manual. the rear sight does not have a windage adjustment,at least that I can see. How do I adjust for right/left point of aim?

MAK90:

Your rifle must be zeroed for BOTH the windage and elevation via the fron sight. Your rifle's rear sight doesn't have the capacity to be zeroed for either windage or elevation. The numbers that you see on your rear sight indicates ranges in meters and they're not for zeroing: they're for range adjustment i.e., if you zeroed your rifle at 100 meters, and your target is at 200 meters, you can adjust your rear sight to the "200" mark to compensate for bullet drop.

So this is what you need to do to zero your rifle:

(1) Get a front sight tool that will allow you to adjust your front sight for both windage and elevation.

(2) Go to the 100 meter (100 yards would work just fine) range, set your REAR sight at the 100M mark. Zero your rifle via the front sight at that distance. If I am not wrong, turning the front sight's post to the clockwise direction would raise your elevation. As for the windage, you have to "drift" the front sight post left and right. All of the above tasks can be accomplish easily with a front sight tool that I asked you to get. With a MAK90, the typical 5-shots group is between four to six inches.

(3) Once your group is centered at 100 yards, you can adjust your rear sight to the "300" meters mark or to the "D" or the "U" mark at its rear most portion of the rear sight (indicates the battle sight range, 300 meters). That way, you can hit torso sized targets from 0 to 300 yards without the need of adjusting your sights in critical times.

I hope that helps.

Johannes

Thanks John762. I have the front sight tool, didn't know what it was at first. I know how to adjust for elevation. How do I use the tool to "drift" the front sight? Also on this tool, there is a pin about 20 mm long that protrudes from the side and points opposite to the knotch that is used to adjust elevation. What's that for?

Thanks also for the explanation of the "D" on the rear sight. I have also read that setting the rear at 200 meters, and zeroing with a target set at 25 meters, the weapon is then set for all marked ranges???

Don't have the C-clamp tool, just the tool that comes in the cleaning kit.

Thats the best way to do it..unless you want to get a punch and beat it with a hammer..

Brass punch and hammer works fine for me. Out of the 27 AK rifles that I have owned at one time or another only 2 have had to have the windage adjusted. Most were dead on for windage and elevation.

IF you have the C clamp sight tool you just place it on the 2 raised areas on the sight post and turn the handle on the T-handle side till you have moved it as far as you want. Just make sure you take it off before shooting.....

you may just have the sight tool thats in the cleaning kit.
