i just bought a mac-90 sporter, i would like to know whats the difference between the mac-90 sporter & the regular mac-90. Also could someone tell me a little about the mac-90sporter, is it a great combat weapon, hows the accuracy and does any know where i can get a manual? Which is better a laser point or scope? I know its a lot of questions but i'm new to this. The y2k woke me up!

I haven't heard of a MAK-90 "Sporter", could you describe the rifle?(Appearance, stockset, features, etc...) Accuracy of individual AKs can vary greatly, but 3-4" groups @100yds is average. That kind of practical accuracy isn't well suited for use with scopes, but red dot style combat sights work very well with AKs. I've owned many military style rifles over the past 25yrs (HKs, ARs, AKs, Mini's, etc...) and if TSHTF the AK is my weapon of choice due to it's unfailing reliability. I've *never* had an AK jam on me at any time. If you've checked out AR-15.com you'll see they have a forum entitled "troubleshooting" for the ARs. You won't see that forum here. The 7.62x39 round has more recoil than the .223 but it also has more tactical penetration. The AK has been a battle-proven design for over 50yrs now, and IMHO that's one h*ll of a testimonial. Just my $.02 worth...

thanks for the info, the mac-90 sporter looks like the regular mac-90 with the wood stock and everything. It has an imprint on the weapon: MAC-90,in a diffent imprint it has sporter right next to MAC-90, also it has C&A VA 8CH VA,MADE IN CHINA and has a 93xxxx. I have heard someone say they had a MAC-90sporter in this Forum, but didn't really say to much about it.GOT INFO?

Mine says Sporter too. Maybe Sporter was more politically correct. Ive heard of Mak-90s with threaded barrels now and again maybe thats the difference. Anyway my Mak-90 Sporter functions flawlessly period with any mag and ammo configuration. They might not be as pretty as most but they are just as good. Its just as good as the day I bought it, no change, this thing will still be firing when Im dead and gone. Only thing is its so good you'll want one of the so-called better ones. And believe me youll get another. The Ak is addictive in all it forms.

Nemesis, I know what you mean... that's why I have both a MAK90 *&* an SLR-95 (wish I'd kept my PolyTech prebans as well. Sigh...)

The MAK-90 sporter is indeed a great combat weapon. The MAK-90, and any other type of well made AK, is considered by most authorities on the subject to be more reliable than the AR-15. While the caliber and styling of the AK-47 has increased in array over the years, the weapon's basic operation remains the same as it was when first introduced in 1947. You can get an owner's manual for a buck or two at gunbroker.com or pick one up at a local gunshow.
