If I can answer for Neil, that appears to be his very nice Model 91/38 Short Rifle, which is made at the Gardone Val Trompia arsenal which I believe was an extension of Beretta during WWII, picking up excess manufacturing capacity. If any of you own a Beretta Italian made pistol, you will see Gardone VT as their location, below their name.
Neil who was the manufacturer of the 2nd Short Rifle? And if it's a 1940 RE Terni, what's the serial number prefix?
Also, do any of your Carc's have anything resembling a crossed rifle stamp, usually below the serial number or the date on the barrel shank? If so, that is an accuracy mark that they think may designate a sniper's rifle, similar to the Russian O's on the Mosins.
I have 2 short rifles and one Cavalry Carbine with that stamp, and they all shoot excellently for military rifles with undersized bullets!
