Can some one with one of these measure it for me? I have one on the way, and if it falls below 30 inches collapsed, I need a pistol permit for it. I asked the same ? in the general weap. disc. board, but I don't know if they measered a Sporter, I just want to be sure because in the suck ass twnship I live in, there are only 2 days a week to apply for a permit to purchase. The one I have on the way has a 16 inch barrel, birdcage flash hider and a coll. stock. If anyone can help with some knowledge I would really appreciate it, Thanks! I just need a warning because I get a 1 hour long hassel every time I go to the Po'lice station for a permit.

If I'm right, it falls just a tad under 30 inches at 29.6. Thats with the stock collapsed. If you wanna be on the safe side, add a butt pad, usually they are about an inch or so thick, and that will put you over the needed 30 inches. THeyre pretty cheap and easy to find.

30" overall is only required in California. For the rest of us, it's 16" barrel, 26" overall.

This is on the Michigan state police FAQ site:
Do rifles or shotguns with collapsible/folding stocks have to be registered in Michigan?
A. M.C.L. 750.222 Yes, provided the rifle or shotgun is 30 inches or less in overall length with the stock collapsed/folded but at least 26 inches AND the barrel length is at least 16 inches and 18 inches respectively. Attorney General’s Opinion #6280: if the firearm is less than 26 inches in overall length or the barrel is less than 16 or 18 inches respectively, the firearm is considered a short-barreled rifle or shotgun and is illegal to possess.
Sucks. And I still have not gotten my SP1. The Dealer sent me a Benelli shot gun and some other guy in new york my gun! It took FED EX 8 days to get the package from Sault Lake City to Detroit. When it got here, they just left it setting up against the building my dealer friend uses for a shop! So, I am still waiting for my damn rifle........this deal was closed on 04/13. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I asked if they would overnight it this time, or at least 2nd day air and now they aren't even answering my emails. I'm fustrated to say the least. How do you send the wrong rifles out and on top of that, no adault signature required? It's not like they are shipping beany babys or something. Whew, Had to get that of my chest.
