The other day I took a trip to a buddies house. He tells me he has a G33/40 mauser passed down to him from his uncle in his closet.I about fell over. These are pretty rare these days and the very few I have seen are an arm and a leg. This was the short mauser 98K used by the German Gebirgsjager(Mountain Div) and the Fallschirmjager(Paratroopers) in WW2.He handed it to me and it took me back in time.A young soldat fighting for his life and comraden on the eastern front,Anti-Partisan operations in Yugoslavia,or at Monte Cassino.Who knows where this gem has been and what its seen.Anyway I looked in horror to see that someone had cut the original stock back about 20%.Other than that its looks mint.Thank god the barrel has not been cut back and all the proof/waffen marks are intact on it.I will try to get him to hunt down a G33/40 stock for it to restore it back to military configuration. What a shame someone cutt the stock.:(I cant find a bluebook value on these anywhere. If it were all original and since it has all marks I know it would be well over $1000.Id rate the finish fair+-Good.Bore looks nice.I told him to never sell it.These are quite rare these days.So much so that most reenactors use a reproduction G33/40 made from a cut down Kar98K.

Oooooow! Cut stock! That's a shame, probably knocked half the collectors value out, maybe even 70% of it. Putting another stock on it would be a help but then the stocks numbers probably won't match. Still probably worth doing if you can find an original stock.

As Schultz would say "I know nothing", but I do have a blue book and thought I'd look it up for you. 21st ed of Blue Book of Gun Values. Last years book.

Page 875 Mauser/Germany

100% 98 90 80 70

Model 33/40 Carbine ("945" 1940) $900 850 600 500 450

Model 33/40 Carb ("DOT" 1941-43")$800 750 500 400 350

From your experience, these values sound low--but hopefully they are of some use to you.

Lucas thanks for your figures.Much appreciated.I seem to have lost the one bluebook I have.I think this is a 1943 model but Ill have to reinspect it over the weekend.Maybe values have come down a little.I have seen them as high as $1400 but in much better shape.
