In my case it's a half a box of 8mm Lebel my neighbor gave me although I might have some 16ga shotgun shells laying around. :D

Hmm, it's a push between alot of them.
577 Snider
577/450 Martini-Henry
11mm Mauser
43 Spanish
8x50r Hungarian for the early Steyr straightpulls.
I suppose the 8x56r Hungarian is just as obsolete.
The 8mm Lebel revolver round falls neatly in this category as well.

It isn't "obsolete"... They just don't make it anymore.

7.5 Swiss Revolver round and or the wooden blank rounds for the 7.5 Swiss rifle round. Then there's the paper patched 7.5 Swiss rifle cartridges with the round nosed bullet. Year is 1910 on the headstamps.

Try here 7.65 argentine (http://www.ows-ammunition.com/cgi-bin/catalog25/search) well it lost the search page but put in 7.65 and they list several types.

Nope SteveG I just have a mint box of ammo still sealed. It was given to me on a trip to Switzerland as a gift from a Swiss gun person. He had the Swiss revolver. They look like the Nagant pistols is the best way to describe them.

A think a better question for me would be, what's the most obsolete firearm that you can't find ammo for.
That for me would be a 1st issue Colt's Police Positive .38. Is it .38 New Police or .38 S&W? Who knows?! Colt only put ".38" on the barrel, and I've never seen either cartridge to determine the chambering.
It's a mystery...

My local FFL has one of those rifles in his store. Some guy sold him one round for $5. Bigass round. I was thinking it would be almost worth it to buy the rifle and round just to say I shot one.

Well, it would have to be the Winchester 1885 Low Wall in .22 WCF. Have to modify .22 hornets a little and the rim thicknes is still wrong. I don't shoot it anyway. My cousins shot it years ago with grandad's handloads and didn't clean it right. Corrosive primers. It's a sewer pipe with evidence of rifling. Damn shame too. It's really sweet on the outside.

Most obsolete rifle that one can't get ammo for . . . humm . . . oh yes I know! The 1866 Winchester military musket in .44 rim fire. The gun is a mess and isn't shootable anyway, but I own it none the less.

Do you have any idea where I could get a couple of these cartridges? My rifle is in great shape, and I would like to fire it sometime.

found some more!
8x57JR and 16 ga 2 1/2 shotshell. Both for a drilling.
Shoots great once I tracked down all the oddball ammo for it. Getting 8x57jr wasn't too bad, the shotshells were more trouble.

Vladimir, the Old Western Scrounger (http://www.ows-ammunition) lists RWS brass for the 10.3x60R Swiss at $21.95 per 20 if you reload. Also, while not cheap, LeClair,Davis & Co. (http://www.leclairdavis.com/catalogs/ER.htm) lists the 10.3x60R Swiss cartridge as their reference number ER00589 for $10 each. Hope this helps!

How 'bout 6.5X54 Mannlicher-Schoenaur? The rifle, a M1903, belonged to my grandfather. My dad has the rifle now. I keep trying to talk him out of it, but he's not biting. The action on this rifle is smooth as silk.

My mom bought this rifle many, many years ago when I was a kid. She still has it as a wall hanger as she was never able to find any ammo for it. She told me today when I called her, that the next time I come to her house I can have the rifle. I don't remember much about the rifle except the caliber, and that it has a tubular magazine with the cartridge lifter that can be locked out for single shot. The bolt is removed from the receiver by removing a screw and round block from the bolt.

A lot of single shot mil ammo in the various 11mm cals. Got an intact 10 round pack of Snider .577 blanks by Kynoch and another pack of .577-.450 Martini Henry loaded for the Maxim Gun by Vickers. But the most obsolete is the single one inch Gatling cartridge for the US Naval Gatling Gun. Now that is a big honker!

My Dad gave me my Grandfather's WWI stuff not too long ago...various decorations and unit citations, his 1903 bayonet and three rounds of ammo in a stripper clip that my Dad said is for the 03 rifle. One of the rounds he called a "practice round". It's bare metal and dull silver in color and very light (tin?) compared to the normal rounds and has a beige/ivory colored almost flat-nosed bullet that feels like it's made out of plastic. Have any of you guys ever seen one of these rounds? How rare are they?

HPK, sounds like the blank cartridges identified here
http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/30-06intro/
Richard - Thanks for the link. The case looks like the one furthest left in the top pic under "Blanks", but the bullet head is shaped more like the one fourth from left. Also it's double-crimped: one ring at the bottom of the neck; the second near the top as in the pic.
I can read the F A on the bottom of the case but can't make out the rest of the stamping.
Looks like I've got some research to do.

I've got a couple of .44 rimfire cartridges laying around, a few odd rimfire sizes, maybe .32 and others. It's hard to tell cuz they don't stamp rimfire sizes like centerfires. I have a 9.3 x 72mm? also... I have a whole box of oddball stuff that I picked up over the years doing gunshows. I might have a .41 rimfire also... can't remember, it's been years since I last looked.

Vladimir Berkov10.3x60r Swiss Vetterli. Have the rifle, never have found anything to shoot out of it.
I have both the rifle and the early double rimfire cartridges(highly unstable according a gunsmith)
You couldnt pay to shoot this thing...ammo just sat around in grandpas basement for to many years and now its really unstable...leads loose...headspace doesnt look rite.
I'll have to drag it out and get some pics of the ammo but heres the rifle...
