Took my Redstar restored MAS36/51 that I paid $49 in fair condition from WGA out this morning. I only fired 20 rounds through her but I can tell this will be an accurate little puppy with a bench rest.

These shots were fired at 75-80 yards from a prone position. The better groupings was fired from a flat laying position behind a fallen pine tree which gave me some support.

The ruler is five inches. The groups from the pine tree position bunched together almost shot for shot pretty weird. The best is about a 3" group. I'll do better when I bring a rest. Neat rifle to shoot, pretty loud and has a kick. The action is pretty smooth too.

The groups labeled two and four were the ones where I had the support of the pine tree. They almost overlapped each other even though I had gotten up and shot group three from the standing prone position before I shot 4.

It's hard to keep consistent when you have to pull the rifle back towards you to eject and cock. I was at an angle as if I was taking cover behind the tree not letting my head come up much. I'm still just a kid at heart I guess.

French rifles has horrific recoil, that's how they were all dropped in the first place.:D In truth I've only fired the Indep through mine and the recoil is nothing to talk about IMO. Use the rubber recoil pad to get some extra length of pull and even my MAS36 is less than an M44. Glad you got to shoot her REDSTAR. My 36/51 is still cherry. The 36 usually seems to outshoot the 36/51 in posts I've read.

About the same as any other military rifle, a little sharp. Kind of like an M44 I guess. I had my coat on cause it's still cold in the hills but it jumped pretty good.
