Very nice Swede M96 Mauser for $69. It has a mirror bore, very good condition wood with a nice patina. Very strong blueing. All matching numbers, dated 1908, Carl Gustaffs.

The only problem is that Bubba got ahold of it and drilled 5 holes and three partial holes in the receiver side for a scope!!

It's also missing the stock disc. I hope to find one in my travels.

I don't suppose some of these were drilled for scopes originally, were they?? :D

I'm happy with it though for the price and overall condition, it will make a fine shooter.

Redstar IMO that rifle is drilled for the German Ajack scope base that is used on the Swedish sniper rifles. Evidently at one time that rifle was a scoped sniper model. Probably when the bore got worn they decomissioned it as a sniper. I think it's very cool as these bases and scopes are available on the market for over 5 bones. You lucked out IMO!

Look in Samco Global's catalogue for a pic of the Swedish sniper rifles. The stock is releived in your photo.

Whoa, I was hoping something like that was the case but wanted to err on the bubba side. I know nothing of these Swedes. I'll take a look at the snipers at Samco's site. My local FFL bought a real nice collection of Swedes and Finns at auction and based on the other stuff this collector had I didn't think he would have drilled it.

What do you mean the stock is relieved in the photo? You mean upside down? I was in a hurry knew I did that. Or you mean the way they grade the barrels with the disc? That's why they took it off? The thing is-- the bore is mirror and the lands are very crisp.

Take care of yourself Zoauve, have fun we'll miss you.

What I mean by relieved is this photo (if it shows up) that shows the holes look at the line of the wood coming from the handguard moving back to the cut in the receiver for the thumb in stripper clip loading. Notice how it drops down about 1/4 inches or so just before the first of the holes. That's to provide clearance for the scope mount. Proof positive that this was a sniper at one time. I wonder if that dealer got the scope too?;)

Oh I see. Thanks buddy I apprecitae your help on this one!

I doubt he got the scope. He sold it so cheap because he thought it was bubbized. I walked into the store. Talked about shooting that morning and he said want an excellent deal on a M96? I snapped it up right away because Ive been wanting one and my budget couldnt afford it.

Now I'll have to fork out the big dough for a scope down the road I guess. :D

First off you're welcome Redstar on the info.

Now if you don't mind how much did you pay for it since you say he thought it was Bubbatized?

$69 plus $4 tax for a grand total of $73, plus he threw in a new $10 Mexican blanket :D

Wow this is really cool!

I was looking at the snipers at Samco's site. Another sure sign is that my Mauser has the bent bolt original to the rifle. Here's a pic of a regular M96 from Samco's site with straight bolt:

Then see the pic of mine above with the bent bolt.

Dang they don't sell the scopes seperately. The original scopes were numbered to the rifle too.

I think I'll casually ask him if he happens to have a scope.

Nah, I think I'll keep this one Shuetz :)

LOL! Yes, you deserve a present. Although I wouldn't have sold it even with the bubba holes :) I get very attached to my firearms very quickly.

How about all the Century Arms chinese made trigger locks I can muster out of my drawers. I probably have 15-30 of them.
You can surely use them in your biz right? If you want them send me your address again on an email to lpeterburs@aol.com and I'll mail them to you.

Great buy Redstar I do love those Swedes and you found a deal.

I remember seeing that you could purchase those discs, but can't remember where.

Yep that worked. They dont have the discs though, but I got them to send me a catalog. They've gone too long without my $$$ :)

Samco has blank discs for $10 I may just get one of those to fill the void.
