I picked up a Turkish Mauser at Big 5 for next to nothing. The stock is in great shape (looks new), but is unfinished (rough), what is the best way to finish the stock? Take if off and???

Also Can a magazine be attched to thei gun (like the 20 rd magazines at AIM)? And if so how would I do it?

I'd use 000 steel wool soaked in lemon oil to smooth it out. You could also use boiled linseed oil, that works good too.

I didn't know they even made something like this. The Turk 38's are based on the M98 design so maybe these would work on a Turk.

This one looks like it just snaps in place like the regular mags do. What a trip, a high cap Mauser. I learn something new every day around here. Call AIM and ask them if they work on a Turk and let us know. Out of curiosity in my case, I wouldn't do it myself.

Thanks for the info, but I am curious why would you not add the magazine?

I made a reply to this post over in General Weapons Dis. forum at AK-47.net.

These mags Redstar are repros of a trench mag for the GEW of WWI time frame. It's not too well made either I might ad. Go see that post for more detail on what's likely to be wrong with it.

Shuetzenman's response is one of the reasons why I wouldn't.

From experience I've found that most aftermarket stuff for any rifle never lives up to the real deal.

Number two is I like to keep my rifles in original condition. Now on a Turk, I'd almost be willing but that leads me back to #1. I have a closet full of aftermarket SKS stuff that never quite lived up to expectations. Waste of money and I'm not the type to pawn it off on someone else.

Well like I said in my post they can be fixed and screwed together so that they will work. Feeding wasn't the problem, it was the rear floor plate lug that gets engaged by the spring plunger in the trigger / mag well coming off that is what made them bad. The thick piece of the lug didn't spot weld to the sheetmetal body of the mag. Installed they look bad-ass and really draw attention. I've thought of putting it on K98k for shits n grins lately. Especially as accurate as it shoots with the 8 mm from Interordnance.
