I picked up a Turkish Mauser at Big 5 for next to nothing. The stock is in great shape (looks new), but is unfinished (rough), what is the best way to finish the stock? Take if off and???
Also Can a magazine be attched to thei gun (like the 20 rd magazines at AIM)? And if so how would I do it?

Strip off the metal, sand out the rough spots with an orbital sander starting with 120 grit. Careful not to hold it too long in one place keep it moving around. Finish with 220 for a mil stock IMO. Then put in a few coats of Boiled Lindseed oil to darken it a bit. Finish up with Tung Oil (really a varnish like finish). Sand with wet and dry 400 paper lubed with BLO between dried coats of Tung oil. When the pores are all filled Sand out the last coat lightly with the BLO lubricated 400 wet n dry paper. Wipe down with a lint free rag.
You can leave as is or put on a mix of 50% Beeswax and Mineral Spirits that you make by melting in beeswax on a double boiler pot. No direct heat or flames to heat the mineral spirits, remember it's combustible.
Pour off the mixture into a shallow jar or tin like a shoepolish tin. Let it cool and then you can use a soft cloth to rub into this stock wax and then rub on to the stock and rub out.
Of course your Turk will look Mutant compared to usual Turks. It'll be waaaaaaaaaay too good looking then.
:D
On 20 round Mauser mags you just take off the floor plate and follower of your current rifle and slip in the replacement extended capacity mag. IF that's the mag I think it is it's not too strong at the back floorplate lug where the plunger thingie goes in the hole to retain it.
They spot weld it on and the metals don't seem to be agreeable to spot welding. I have one of thes mags and I had to drill through and tap the inner bit. Needed Cobalt drills as the sucker was harder than the hubs of hell! Used some 6 X 32 button head cap screws, cause they look like rivits. Needed 4 of them to do it right. Worked ok after that, well except that the floor plate kept sliding off. I haven't cured that yet so I don't use it much. A dream of a 20 round 8 mm Mauser is still not quite realized for me. Someday I'll get back to it.
