View Full Version : More headstamp help??
Decided to start a new post.
Can anyone I.D. some of these other head stamps?
First is "Nato cross" at 12 then "RA" about 7 O'clock and "70" at 5 O'clock.
Next is weird. "76" at 6 O'clock and upside down "K" at 10 O'clock and either cyrillic looking N or U at 2 O'clock.
How good is the German DAG ammo? I have 2 different headstamps one is:
"Nato cross" at 12 and "DAG-66-15" at 6 O'clock.
"DAG" at 12 O'clock and "7.62X51" at 6 O'clock.
In the box I got these headstamps and the TZ ranging from 74 to 79 and then 81 to 87 or 88. Then TZZ 88 and 89. Pretty weird.
Thanks for the help.

Dag is supposed to be a very letal German bullet as it has a thin jacket and a deep cannuler ring that makes the bullet fragment easily. Accuracy wise I don't have any feeling for it.

TZ and TZZ are both Israeli headstamps
Thanks for the help.

I got a couple of cans from Century awhile back. My CETME seems to like it. Pretty clean and accuracy is on par with the Port stuff out there. Don't know how lethal it is but I've read many favorable posts about it. I'd definetly get some more if it becomes available.

BTW Ed4, be careful with some of the 80's vintage Israeli 7.62 Nato ammo. There have been reports of it blowing up as in cases coming apart and causing damage to rifles. Be very warry of any rounds that you can't see a heat treat mark on the neck. If they are all bright with out the dull heat treat discoloration at the neck they could have been tumbled. Tumbled ammo can break down the granuals and cause dangerous pressures due to an enhanced burn rate on the powder.
Powders have a certain shape for the granual size that is important in controlling its burn rate. If the granuals are reduced in size they will burn to a pressure peak faster and could blow a rifle clean up. This has happened and it's been documented.
Thanks for the info.
And thanks for the warning Schuetzenman. So that's the ammo that was tumbled and had warnings about online?
I've heard and read all kinds of warnings about tumbling live ammo. I am also a reloader and never tumble anything assembled.
And if that's the case I'll just pull the projectiles, burn the powder and reload the cases/projectiles with fresh powder. Or pull the projectiles, burn the powder and toss the cases and use the projectiles for either .308 or .30-06.
I got all that ammo in a deal with an enfield.
