I have a PWA commando pre ban, and was interested to know what thease things are going for these days. I picked this one up for 600.00. It is about 95% condition. Any ideas? Did I do well, real good, or average?

if it is indeed a true pre-ban....built as a complete rifle prior to sept 94....then you did exteremly good. going prices for AR pre-bans...run the range of anywhere between around 1200-1500 depending on the model....colts usually are the most expensive and are sometimes priced above the 1500 dollar mark.
check here to see if yours falls into the serial number range of pre-ban recievers.

if it's not a pre-ban....then you will need to put it back to post ban configuration.

It is a pre ban ser # 107** Did pac west just go out of business, or did someone buy them? I know there is a rumor about them selling lowers only.

not sure if they where bought out by someone else, or just went out of business.....if you go over to A.R15.com take out the period between the A and R ...for some reason the people who run this forum have some kind of blood feud with that web site....real childish shit, so it automatical give you ******* when you spell out the whole web address. and do a search over there on PWA. they may have made receivers as well as complete guns....I have no idea on how you would go about finding if this was a complete gun, or just a reciever since the company is no longer around and their records are archived somewhere.
just don't commit a crime with the weapon, and in all likelyhood no one will give a shit if it is, or isn't a preban.

Rock River Arms bought them out, and has possession of their FFL records.

One other question about this thing, the upper has almost no markings on it. All it has is two letters by the rear sight one the right hand side like this c
m
The finish almost matches the lower, satin black, but not quite as shiny. It also has a m-16 bolt carrier. The bolt itself is strange as well, I have not seen one like it ever, it is light like plastic and looks like aluminium. Just isn't like the others I have at all. Thanks for your help so far.
It changed my cm mark, The c is ther, then the m is next, only a little lower than the c.
lower has S# 40,*** but it has no year prefix. I am just wondering if all post bans have the year prefix.

as for the bolt.... are you sure it isn't the bolt carrier...the bolt itself should be steel...I haven't seen a bolt carrier that you described...from what you are finding on your gun, I suspect that this was a put together gun on a lower, and not a complete gun made by PWA....but I could be wrong.
the only way to know for sure is to get a confirmation from rock river arms, as to how this weapon left the PWA factory....as a receiver or a complete weapon and what date.

The guy that sold it to me said that he had it built by a friend in '92. I think he said that the upper was in bad shape or something and had this guy rebuild it so who knows. The bolt carrier is steel, the bolt itself is the weird metal. I wish I could get my hands on a didgital camera to show you. Thanks again for the info on the upper. All of this info is great, but the best thing is that this gun really rocks and rolls. I've never bump fired, but I think I came close with this thing without even trying, it was sweet. It has all ar15 parts in the trigger group, so maybe they were polished up or something but it sure was fun to shhot for sure, by the end of a 30 rounder, I had flame shooting out of the ejection port, probably the last 2-3 shots.:p

if he built it as a complete weapon, prior to sept 94, then you have a bonfide pre-ban AR for a very very good price. if you can get him to sign a statement to the effect, and have it notorized it will be proof positive that this is a real preban, and not one that was put together after the 94 bill, with a pre-ban reciever...just in case you ever want to sell it later on, just a sugguestion.

I really miss the PWA I built back in the late 80's :( I sold it when funds were getting short.
