View Full Version : FR-8 magazine problems...

Well I shot my new FR-8 for the first time today, put 20 rounds through it and all was well except for a few problems with proper feeding from the magazine. A few times the round slipped off the bottom of the bolt and pushed back into the magazine, I had to pull that round out and load the next one. Also the bolt didn't catch the round a few times and the bolt just slid closed over the round without "grabbing" one and loading it into the chamber.
Anyone else have these problems? Any fixes you can think of?
Thanks :)

the only thing I can think of is that maybe the mag spring is weak...I dont know if stanard mauser mag well springs will work in an FR-8, but i know you can pick one up at many shows for very little. Maybe somone else can help you a little more, but thats all I can think of.

take a look at the magazine spring, and make sure it isn't broken or gummed up. also check to see thet the plug in the front of the magazine well is still there. it could have been switched out from another non fr-8 rifle.
also take a look at the extractor claw.

Fromrussia... I have an FR-8 that has problems feeding as well. I had searched for one of these rifles for a long time and finally found this one for $150. I'm pretty bummed over the feeding trouble:( . What mine is doing is similar but it only happens to the cartridge feeding from the left side of the mag. If I load only one cartridge in the mag it is on the right side and loads smoothly into the chamber. But if two or more are loaded I can expect none of the cartridges on the left side of the staggered row to feed. Very puzzling and frustrating (and embarassing at the range trying to clear a jam from a bolt action:p . Other than that the rifle makes a fine single shot:rolleyes: it shoots quite accurately. I may break down and go see the local gunsmith and see what he thinks. When I do I'll post on here what he says ( I got an enfield jungle carbine that needs headspace checked anyway).:bye:

Did the problem resolve??
Was the spring the trick?

I know this is a very old thread but I am having the same problem with my FR-8 Mauser as the original poster is having. Anyone have any ideas on a solution?
Thanks
