I'm thinking of picking one up I don't really want to spend 59.99 (vs. the 39.99) but should I? Any of you guys who bought have any thoughts?

Well I don't know about SOG's Turk 38's but if they are the ones listed as VG condition I'd get them for $60 vs. a Good for $40. Most goods have dark and pitted bores, little finish on them both steel and wood. Basically beat to hell! IMO the one you want if you're just looking for a cheap receiver to make a custom rifle with. The VG's now those usually have bright bores, 90% bluing and decent stocks.

I took your advice without reading it first. I grew up around Mausers. My dad had an argentine w/all matching serials (its gone now) and my best friend's dad had 15 or so of them. I'd go over to his house just to clean the guns.

Ok . . . how does one take my advise without reading it first? Are you saying you just went and ordered one before checking for the answer?

That could be one way of interpreting my response. Actually I guess I'm saying I was thinking in line with you that you get what you pay for (hopefully). There will always be better guns I could buy but this will be a fun one to start with. Worse come to worse it will be the rifle I start my son on when he hits 10 or so (he's 3 1/2 right now but can recognize a garand from other rifles)

Skip the $39 ones and spend the extra $20. I got lucky and got a pretty good one for $39, but won't buy another cheapo. Not when you can get a much better quality one for just a few bucks more.

I noticed that Century doesn't have them now. Anyone know if this is just a temporary thing? Could SOG really have the last ones?

I ended up getting one of those 27.95 Cracked Stock from SOG, after they ran out of the Mosin Nagant 91/30 Cracked Stock I had previously ordered. Imagine the anticipation of waiting a whole week for the rifle, only to get a Postcard. (Ok, they didn't have my voice number)
Service was very good, I dealt with Joe there. I placed the order on Monday and it made it all the way to the west coast by Friday.
Condition of the rifle was Good AT best. The only crack I could find was the front of the handguard and it's a crack that can be ignored. The color was nice for a Turk despite being very dirty. There is rust everywhere and the barrel was dark and dirty, but the rifling looks sharp.
With a little work, this will be a good action for a project. I would say I got my money's worth. I really wasn't expecting a dirty gun, but was expecting a good gun with a cracked stock. I'm ok with it.
Anyway, I've got a MAS 49/56 arriving on Monday anyway. :) (Not from SOG)
