I have a 1965, Colt AR-15 SP1. This is ser# 4xxx. within first 5000 serial#. It is in near new condition. No forward assist, M16 type fullbolt carrier, chrome bolt, triangle handguard, 3 pronge hider, bayo lug. All parts original, w/ original instruction booklet.

What is the going value of this rifle? Im not selling. Had a guy follow my around begging to buy it years ago. It was grandads, that he bought originally. I used to sneak into his room when I was about 7 or 8yrs and check it out. Gramps kept it loaded, under the dresser. I still remember the WOW feeling.

Trigger beats my Colt shorty by a mile. No creep, short travel, got to be under 5lb on pull.

If I can post some pictures, I will. Any help with value would be great. Papa

A couple variables would make it less valuable, barrel wear(Shot alot) and original box with original paperwork. $1000 to $1200 depending on these 2 issues.

On one hand being your Grandfathers and your memories of it I would dare say close to priceless for sentimental reasons.

I know I have both my Grandfathers .300 Savage Model 99 and my Fathers Winchester Pre 64 Model 70 in .308 and they not going anywhere.

As for a fair market value with the Vortex FH, Pry Bar Tool Lug (Bayo Lug) and depending on condition and if you have the box....I would think in the area or $1500 plus, but I am no expert either.

The gun looks nearly NEW. Hell in the 13 years I have had it, I only put say 80 rounds through it. I dont think gramps ever shot it. The bolt and carrier look like showroom floor stuff. Papa

If you do decide to sell it down the road, do not sell it to a gun dealer, make it a private sale to another individual, you will get more money for it. I use Auction Arms and Gunbroker.com for reference before I buy an gun. HTH.
