This post is for Transmark a new member. In doing the research and at the suggestion of Trans I'm going to put this up as a sticky for any other owners of 71/84 Mausers.

Ok I'm looking in my Olson book on Mausers the bolt on your rifle looks half way to being a Mosin Nagant rifle.

Here's the instructions as listed in Olson.

Step 1) Check rifle to be sure the weapon is unloaded. Then unscrew the bolt stop screw far enough to clear the bolt stop from the shoulder on the receiver. (That's the screw and washer thingie by the bolt handle.) A note of Caution here folks. Don't attempt to unscrew the bolt stop screw completely from the bolt body as it's held in by a pin to prevent it from backing out and getting lost. Tip courtesy of Redstar on this one. :) )

2) Pry outward on the cutoff and slide bolt mechanism out of receiver.

3) Turn firing pin mechanism 90° counterclockwise so that cam nose of cocking piece enters cam cut on bolt.

4) Remove bolt head assembly. ( It should just pull off now). Separate extractor and ejector from bolt head. (You might want to skip the extractor thing.)

5) Rest firing pin point on a hardwood surfae. Press downward on the safety and bolt mainspring from front of bolt. (You are compressing the spring so you can unscrew the firing pin nut which is like the cocking indicator on a typical mauser.) Once the firing pin nut is off the spring can be removed from the firing pin.
