Why is it illegal to put a pistol-grip stock on my MAK-90? It's the same gun with or without the thumb-hole stock on it? What difference does it make what kind of stock is on the weapon in terms or making the country a safer place? Why can post-ban AR-15's have a pistol-grip but not post ban AK's? What difference does it make where or who made the gun? Can someone please help rationalize that for me. I just don't get it...

The reason is simple. They (the "elite" class) want to eventually eliminate all ownership of guns. They fear the common man, whether it is a socialist do-gooder or the multibillionares of the world. Also corporations (which are entities whose goal is to maximize profit) are opposed to political power of the worker class. For example although I am not very impressed with today's unions, they were essential in the late 1800's in establishing workers' rights. The method used is called incrementalism. Back in the 1930's they heavily regulated the ownership of full autos. Previously one could order a full auto tommy gun for about $125. They upped the price with the creation of Class III weapons meaning registration and a $200 dollar transfer fee (a small fortune back then!). Then they instituted the 1968 gun control act. Say bye bye to rifles with barrels under 16" and shotguns under 18", plus now you have to go through a FFL holder in most cases to buy a gun. Previously you could order a gun through the mail or pick on up at the local store without any bs paperwork. Also age limits on ownership were instituted. Many high schools (even in heavily urban areas eg.NYC) had rifle or shotgun clubs until the last couple of decades, this tradition has disappeared thanks in part to the 1968 Gun Control Act. Somewhere along the line they also regulated silencers. Previously you could buy a silencer, that way you didn't annoy your neighbor as much if shooting in your multiacre backyard. Now they've targeted "assault" rifles saying they have no sporting purpose (as if that's what the second amendment is all about) and succeeded in limiting new mags to 10 rounds or less. They continue to pass more and more laws and then they don't even enforce the law. I personally believe this is on purpose so they can demand for more restrictions to stop the "bloodbath" in America. Eventually they will try to get firearms registered, and also try to put new production of all guns to an end. Then slowly confiscate the rest. This is only part of a larger battle for the heart and soul of America. It's the old divide and conquer scheme. Enough said.
>>Why is it illegal to put a pistol-grip stock on my MAK-90?
Your MAK-90 is a POSTBAN IMPORTED "assault" rifle. The law now says that you CANNOT have a pistol-grip on a rifle manufactured after the ban that has more than 10 non-US-manufactured parts incorporated into its buildup.
>>It's the same gun with or without the thumb-hole stock on it? What difference does it make what kind of stock is on the weapon in terms or making the country a safer place?
According to our Gov., a pistol-grip is a non-essential accessory and has no significant sporting purpose. They believe that it looks malicious and is therefore bad.
>>Why can post-ban AR-15's have a pistol-grip but not post ban AK's? What difference does it make where or who made the gun?
AR-15s are made in the US, so they are 100% US manufactured. Therefore, they do not fall victim to the above ten-part-limit law and can have a pistol-grip, etc. It's not really a matter of WHO makes the gun, its WHERE the gun is made. Note that Hesse Arms is now offering an AK that has several US manufactured parts, and thus can be sold with a pistol grip just like AR-15s. http://www.hessearms.com
If you want to put a traditional pistol-grip and stock on your MAK-90, you can order a US Parts Kit that contains several US manufactured AK part equivalents that you can use to REPLACE the originals in your rifle. You can then install a US made stock, pistol-grip, and hand guards.
See the US Parts Kits section of this board.
It's stupid, I know - but there is nothing you can do except FIGHT to keep your rights as a gun owner. What's sad is that none of the laws they propose will stop criminal gun use. They just hinder us as gun collectors and owners. Believe me, if a criminal wants a military production full-auto AK-47 brand new from Russia or China - he can get one for less than you paid for your MAK...
Hope this helps...

Thanks guys for taking the time to respond to my questions. I posted those questions because I needed to vent my frustration caused by living in a country with 20,000 gun laws, most of which are irrational.
Thanks again for the replies !!!
