OK, I'm broke, but I need to get a new gun (it's been forever!) Ezra's post, and other's posts on the BALLESTER MOLINA have me thinking that it's well worth the $200 bones for one. I have the HK USP in .45 already, so you know I have thousands of .45ACP laying around anyways.....
What do you think? I'm particularly intersted in things you DON'T like about it, however Good reviews are also very intersted. I just don't want to get it, and realize that there is something about it that I just can't stand....
ANy reviews around on it?

THanks for any help.

Shawn,
if you can afford it I would suggest the Colt Sistema 1927, about $119.00 more, than the BM, CC price-COD price is $6.00 less than CC. I just ordered the Sistema on Monday morning, so I can't speak of the condition yet, although, advertised as very good to excellent, but Neilwest's looks beautiful in his pics! The 1927 is an exact copy of the 1911, where as the BM only shares some of the the 1911's parts. I was feeling guilty about ordering the Sistema 1927 on Monday until I went over to my Dad's house cycled and dry fired his Colt 1911 a few times, and now I am awaiting with eager anticipation, despite the ass cutting that I am going to recieve from my wife when it arrives! However, if I was willing to risk certain death, from my wife, then I would have ordered a BM from SOG as well, as EC's pics are truely beautiful as you have seen. Oh yeah, the magazines are interchangable so you could use the 10 round Chip McCormicks in the BM or the 1927, or the GI issue 1911 mags will fit the BM as well.
Good luck,
Speedfish

1. These come with two mags. I would also go with the Systema as they are 100% Colt compatable but the Molina is a wonderful gun for the price. I have two of them and am very pleased with them. If your budget is tight get the Molina. But if you can cough up the remainder I would also go with a systema.

Now I'm just confused... Where can I purchase a Systema? Is it C&R?
THanks

Well you probably saw my reort in General Weapons discussion. My only complaint was the markings and much of the slide grip were buffed off on one side during the refinishing process.
I know of others who had this problem as well. However, it looks like Ecoli got a real nice one with crisp markings.
Even with this complaint I think they are an excellent value for a .45 auto. I'm very happy and may get another next month if they're still available.
My Molina from SOG only came with one mag. I think Century was giving two maybe.

They'd make a good Car gun! Not going to loose a ton of money if it gets ripped off.
The Systema is probably worth the $$'s but the Molina is cheap and would make like I already said a great car gun!:D

Im a big fan of the 1911.I own 3 of them.A springfield Armory,a Colt, and a Firestorm.I dont really care for the Ballister Molina because it is missing a very important safety feature. The grip safety. If I were you Shawn I would find a Systema Colt like a few others have said. Its a true, well built 1911 made on Colt machinery.I think Century is selling them but I dont see them in their newest flyer.Check the auction sites you can find them there.

Shawn,
I just received my Sistema from SOG today, and the papers in the box indicate that it's from JLD enterprises. Go to Cruffler.com and link to JLD via the products for sale or 45's for sale, can't remember exactly which. The prices look better at JLD and I would be willing to bet that you get a better grade pistol, as they have the grades listed as 1, 2, and 3 and they specify what each means, where as with SOG it's a crap shoot. Mine looks great, but I think it's probably a grade 2 or 3 vs the grade 1 that I would prefer. Yes, they are C&R's and Cruffler.com has an excellent review on them under their "firearms archive review". If I get time I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
Good luck,

OK, a little help here needed....
I didn't send my C&R to JLD since I'm a dolt
I went to a local gunstore, and they did have the Colt Sistema there for $350, which is the recommended price at Cruffler.com, so it seems reasonable. The Sistema he has appears to be in good condition... the bluing on either side of the slide is buffed down to the point where there is little left, but the gun still looks nice.....
Now the question.... do you think it's worth buying from him, or should I just wait and try to get one with the C&R license....
Costs with C&R license:
1. Cost of gun ($300~)
2. Cost of shipping ($15)
Total: around $315-$330
Cost from a dealer:
1. Cost of gun ($350~)
2. Cost of tax ($24.50)
3. Cost of gun purchase permit ($10)
Total: around $380-$400
Hmmmmm..... SOG is out, otherwise I'd have it ordered already....
Here's another intersting tidbit... the dealer had a very nice looking customized 1911 (Colt) that looked like a nice deal for the price.....
It was stainless steel, had a customized barrel, trigger, etc. The trigger pull was fantastic, and Mr. Dealer told me it was competition grade accurate.... He said some guy poured a lot of $$$ into it, and got a divorce and needed money. The gun looked like it was in great shape, and I liked the fact that it was stainless steel and mostly colt parts....
It was selling for $650, and seemed like a great deal. It had match sites, a custom trigger, custom barrel, hogue grips (which i thought fit my hand well).....
What do you think? I'm in a bind here.... I kinda just wanted a cheap 1911 to start with, but the SS Colt 1911 for $600~ seemed like a good deal to me (me being pretty dumb at this stuff sometimes). I checked his other items in the store (The stuff that I knew prices on) and they all seemed very competitive (I checked a Carcano, M44, SKS, AK-47, etc) so I don't think I'm getting hosed on the deal....
SHould I skip the custome hack job (which seemed well done, but I don't know shit)

I tried to order one today from JLD. They're out of the Sistemas and are expecting more in 30 days.

I don't know if its an option but Century's "Fair-Good" Ballester Molinas are being reviewed over at Parallax's board as being graded too harshly. Everyone sais the finish on the outside is the only nasty thing about 'em, but sand blast 'em and blue 'em and you've got a real fine gun. Century's asking $189, you can get new original grips (if you like the originals) from FAC or SARCO I think.
Just another option if you like the Ballester's lack of a grip safety (I do).
SOG (I know you don't like'em, but hey- they have a good pistol selection) has some cool little Berretta 1934's in .32 for cheap-O too, if you like stibby little WWII Berettas.
Cheers!

Shawn,
why not get the Ballister Molina from SOG now, and then pick up a Sistema in 30 days from JLD? This way you can go ahead and mail a copy of your C&R to JLD, and still get the BM now, and then you'd have 2 pistols instead of 1! Unfortunately I'm in the same boat with you as far as being ignorant to tricked out 1911's and their value.

You might check with CDNN too. They had Sistema's a while back. I ordered two from them around November/December. I bought them seperately and it came to $309.xx each, shipped USPS Priority Mail. Both were in great shape and function flawlessly.

This is the BM I got from Century when they had the $159 special. It's graded "Very Good", but I think it's abit better than that. Since then I've replaced the grip panels and refinished the metal. The Oxyphoblue turned out not as dark as I liked but fair enough. I'll see if I can scan some pics tomorrow to show you the latest look. :)
Overall I think Ballester Molina are great pistols, with an unique history behind it. Well worth the $200 avg price for it.

I can't catch a break.
I wanted a Makarov, waited, none of the big dealers have C&R Maks.
Now I decide, WTF, I'll buy a Sistema, call SOG, out of stock!!!
EDIT: Scrolled down and see SOG is out has been posted./EDIT
Jeeez, I'm just going to have to buy that Uzi...

Thanks for all the help guys!
I ended up buying the Norinco today from the dealer. The Sistema was not in as good of shape and was $60 more. I heard some good things about the Norinco and figure it will be a good startoff point for my 1911 collecting.
I ended up getting it for $307 after tax (Dealer came down a little) and I have to pay the $10 missouri background check tax. It ended up being $317 for all of it total which is about what I would have gotten the Sistema for after shipping, so I guess I came out right at the price I had hoped for.

Wanna hear rest of my true sob story? So, I say screw it, I've got the jones, I'll order a spare mag for my 'preban' Tarus 40 cal and while I'm at it, a Yugo captured mauser from CDNN. I call them (I get their catalog) and they claim not to have my C&R license on file... Sometimes, it's just not meant to be.

Shawn, I have one of the Norinco 1911's. Had three at one time because I bought them NIB for like $239. I have pachmyer grips on this one but one day I will put a couple hundred into it and have a custom pistol. It shoots fine the way it is though.
