I just had my Dealer order me a couple more 91/38 Short Rifles from SOG last week. They arrived yesterday.
The first had virtually no dents in the stock and no inscriptions. It is a 1940 RE Terni with an I serial number prefix. Bluing is about 70-75%, but there is no pitting at all, and the bore is probably the best I have seen on a military rifle. The trigger pull is extra nice on this one, too - it will probably make a great shooter.
The second one had virtually no bluing on exposed surfaces, and had a Christian cross engraved on the left side of the buttstock, and another engraving which I could not make out. There were also a few chunks taken out of the stock. It also is a 1940 RE Terni, with an AB serial number prefix, as I recall. The bolt on this one was blued, which suggests it may have been through Egypt, even though Century claims all these rifles are coming from Albania. Having travelled to the Middle East on business and seen many rifles there, this one has that definite Middle Eastern appearance, IMO. I wonder if the cross might designate the Lebanese Christian Militia. It appears it will clean up nice, but I left that one with my dealer, as I have a deal with him that if he doesn't sell them within a couple months, I will buy them from him.
He does alot of business with SOG, and I also ordered one of those cool looking Beretta 1934 Romanian issue 380's from him.
So that's about what we can expect from SOG right now. They're not quite as presentable as two months ago, but are still nice shooters, with a few surprises (like the bore on rifle #1).
