I couldn't find a screwdriver to remove the screws on my m48a mauser and I was getting desperate cause I didn't want to mar up the screws.
Well it turns out the AK's cleaning kit tool combined with the cleaning kit tube makes a nice screwdriver that is PERFECT for the mauser's screws.

Yeah, I've found that little sucker to be useful on more than one occasion. Thanks for the heads up!
Hows the Mauser? Did you get a nice one?

I know for a fact that the scewdrivers on the SAR cleaning kits are not very strong.I almost bent mine on a stubborn screw once so take caution when you have a screw that wont budge.

so far so good. The bolt is shiny, some *TINY TINY* pitting (like maybe 5 or 6 tiny tiny dots) on the external rear of the bolt (near the safty) Nothing notcible or bad really. There was some green gunk inside the bolt, copper fouling of some sort. But it's nice and shiny and clean now.
The metal is like 99% or so blued, some areas have worn, but nothing major. The only thing external that I noticed anything bad was the part of the sight that the blade was sitting on top of, the metal is tarnished under there but there are no range markings on that part so it's purly asthetic. No rust that i've seen, lots of cosmoline, brown nasty stuff, but no rust.
The wood is really really dark but I need to get out all the cosmoline I think it should turn out nice. There are some minor wear marks, no gouges, no cracks, just some bumps and nicks, I like the 'battle wear' sorta, gives it personality
BTW I almost creamed my jeans when I saw someone (the owner?) carved their initals in the buttstock of my k31, which I haven't disassembled yet, which appears to be PRISTINE except the wood which is worn, but no gouges and no cracks so i'm very happy with both.
BTW anyone know how to remove the bayonet lug on the m48a? (the metal band that is on the end of the bare stock that the cleaning rod slides into) and I hear I should leave the recoil lug alone so I will.
getting the front barrel band off was a *PAIN IN THE ASS*

Try unscrewing your buttplate on your K31 a lot of guys say they find addresses and names in them of the soldier it was issued to.
Some guys have called over seas and hooked up with the original owners on these.:D
