View Full Version : What is the difference?
Between a pre 9\13\94 Colt CAR-15 and a Norinco MAK-90 converted to ten or less imported parts between 11\89 and 9\13\94 (thus makeing the MAK-90 not subject to 922)? I think both guns are the same. Why could I not put a folding stock on this MAK-90?
Because there are no pre 94 american parts kits. The 10 or less rule in the 94 law didn't change the 89 ban on folding stocks, flash suppressors, and bayonette lugs.

Isn't a pistol grip stock also one of the items along with folding stock, bayo lug, ext.? Out of the laws posted black and white in front of me, I can't find any place where it says if you have ten or less imported parts that you can put on only a pistol grip stock, only that it is not subject to sec 922. Even if no companies made parts kits, I'm sure some US parts where available and home made parts could be made. If your gun is not subject to the law before 9\13\94, I believe it is a pre ban gun like a Colt CAR-15. The law puts all the "evil" features in the same group (pistol grip included with folding stock), but no where can I find it say that "A PISTOL GRIP IS OK IF YOU HAVE TEN OR LESS IMPORTED PARTS". Considering no companies make folding stock post ban AK kits I'm probably beating a dead horse, then again people got killed because they said the world was round and not flat. The thing is no one has given me prof, just opinons (which is appreciated very much by the way).

THey wrote the ten or less rule to outlaw imported assault weapons i.e. AK's. They did not realize that an AK could be made to have n deadly parts such as pistol grips, bayonets, etc. but if take off the "deadly" parts than it is no longer considered an "assault weapon" so it could be imported. If the rifle is then assembled with US parts then it can have a pistol grip because it is mostly made in the US. They just wrote the law to ban guns from importation without banning the actual guns otherwise no one could even own an AR even law enforcement. They thought they were slick but we just so happened to be slicker, eventually they will just ban everything but at least we will be well armed for that time.
You missed it the 89 ban sez folding stocks, bayonette lugs, pistol grips and flash suppressors are illegal on imported guns.
94 law sez 2 or less features on domestic guns and 10 or less parts makes a import a domestic gun. Therefore folding stock, pistol grip, hicap mag=3 =illegal. Pistol grip+hicap mag =2 =legal on domestic guns, and on a import gun that has less than 10 imported parts which makes it a domestic gun.

Technically you could put a folder on a MAK-90 with a US parts kit. You just couldn't have a pistol grip... unless you welded the mag in place. Hard to shoot a folder with no pistol grip. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

thank you for clearing this up for me, I was counting the folding stock and pistol grip as one.
