I heard somewhere that it is legal to ship a rifle for hunting use to another state by mail then pick it up once you get there. Is this legal or do you have to always go through FFL's to send stuff. I don't understand what the big deal would be even if someone else picked it up, I mean we still can do private sales. Any comments would be appreciated, thank you.

Try going to the BATF web page. If you type in "BATF" into your search engine, you should find it. Then go into firearms core section and the FAQ and you should find the answer. If I remember correctly, you can ship a rifle out of state to yourself or a friend for hunting trips without going through an FFL. However, it may be easier just to take it with you when you travel.
