I currently have a YUGO AK47 Underfolder. It was shipped in the country pre-89. While in customs it was subject to the Thumbhole stock deal (Ugly One To!)It was shipped to me with underfloder attached(Folded under) with butthole stock and pistol grip which was in box, barrel was threaded still with slant break and 30 round Yugo Mag Pinned at rear. Has certficate saying that it was made to comply with customs request so that it may clear customs and that this having been the last batch of this type of rifle and that their would be no more. It also still has the bayo lug. Pre or Post? Changeable or not?

These are POST BAN. They got stuck in Customs and were held there for a while. You can't legally change out the thumbhole stock (unless you get a US parts kit).

Yes...But The US parts out there are not made for this. Also the Folding stock is still attached and works if thumbhole is removed. So I'm guessing at this point it is not possible to bring to pre-ban status.

It's really a shame these post-bans are so screwed up. The Yugo AK is considered to be one of the best. I'd like to get a post-ban M-90 and put a US parts kit on it...but I guess not. Also, the mags are pricey. Usually $75/each....not as bad as my Valmet mags, but I got those with the gun. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

Well..I'm still looking for US made parts to convert to pre-ban status. I know a guy who can duplicate the grip and has a shop stamp made in the USA. I have the orginal grip also. The muzzle brake is attached to the rifle so this is not an issue. What's weird is the folder still works and is attahced..I mean the whole is complete except for the Pistol Grip which is in the box.

Are you sure it's not a pre-ban then? Sounds quite confusing.

It's a post-ban. The M-90s have a thumbhole stock OVER the folding stock. It really is odd. You need to have someone remove that folding stock to put on a US parts kit.

Cannot remove the folding stock without leaveing a gapping hole the rear of the receiver. Thus I do no think there is a supplier for fixed stock. The only thing to do is to pin the folding stock into perm. extended position which is what they did with some models. Then buy the US parts kit for the mags, trigger and pistol grip. Or just stash it for a rainy day then attach all the ugly stuff.

A guy doing business under the name stock options out in california makes a U.S. parts kit for the Yugo rifle. He was the very first person in the country to get around the law in fact. He was selling them back in 1994 years before most people knew about the 20 part breakdown. I have an excellent AK-100 polymer stock set on my pre ban 84/s tha I installed just 'cause it was cool. I have lost all the literature I got from him, but do a web search for "stock options" or call 1-800 information. Good luck, nice gun.

I have talked to the person FFL dealer who purchased 10 of these rifle's and he talked to BATF at that time and the rifle's were in the country prior to the Pre-89 Ban and were changed while in cutoms to get out according to BATF they can have the underfolding stock intact and the pistol grip on the rifle.

There were some Chinese rifles that came in the same way, with an intact underfolder in the forward position and a Bush-hole stock over it.
While I in no way condone the willful violation of any law, no matter how blatantly stupid or unconstitutional, I would say that if you take that Bush-hole stock off, install the correct pistol grip, and don't walk up to a federal agent and brag about your rifle, who the heck will know, and knowing several feds personally, who the heck will care except the people on these boards who are 100% certain that the split second they have 11 imported parts on a post-Bush-the-First rifle, all their doors and windows will burst open with at least 10 men in black coming through each opening. The sound of black helicopters will fill the air, and a dozen black Chevies will cut furrows in yours and your neighbor's yards as the feds take you out for the universe ending travisty of installing the wrong number of domestic parts in your evil imported rifle.
Sorry, again, I in now way condone the intentional violation of any law, no matter how unconstitutional or stupid, or in this case, unconstitutional and stupid!
What about "shall not be infringed" do they not understand!
