All MISR rifles are post ban. They are chinese parts on a maddi receiver.

Yeah it's a postban rifle fixed up by Century International Arms of St Albans, VT. They took a lot of the Maadi Parts and assembled them on US receivers. The MISR is an acronym that stands for "Made In States Receiver". I don't know exactly, but the rifles started showing up about 3 or 4 years ago. I'm not for sure when they actually started selling these but it's a good guess LOL . Hopes this helps a little.

Sorry JA for the contridiction there, but I thought they were Maadi rifles with US receivers. Thus the name MISR or is this standing for a Maadi receiver that has been finished out in the US? Maybe that's it.

After the chinese gun and ammo ban thousands of MAK-90 rifle parts kits were imported. Thousands of Maddi stripped receivers were imported. Century Arms had the two combined and wha-la MISR's. I have closely examined 2 of these rifles and 1 looked like it was put togeather on camel back at full gallop with a 3lb ball peen hammer. When pulling the bolt back you could feel it binding/twisting on the side rails. The other one was ok but the painted black Maddi receiver,Chinese blued barrel, and phosphated bolt carrier made it look kinda funny.

I have the same rifle a Misr semi-auto made from the MAADI Co. for Engineering. Industries MAADI-CAIRO EGYPT is this rifle an import or imported parts assembled here in the US? and is it legal to use a 30 round mag and a bayonet on this rifle?

Does it have a Bayonet lug and does it look like shit. These are the two ways to pretty much tell what kind it is. The older one's were imported (Pre-Ban) by Steyr, known as Steyr Maadi's. These were extremely high quality and workmanship and are all Pre-Ban configuration (Pre-89) and have a Bayonet lug. The rest are the China/ Maadi bullshit available today, finnish looks like crap and parts are mis-alined along with crappy wood stocks. I could see buying one if you don't care for quality or accuracy but want an AK for spare parts or as a "beater."

SW,
No problem with using 30rd mags. The only Maddi that can't use hicap mags of pre ban imported mfg is the one being sold that has US parts installed by the importer. This rifle requires US mag parts to be installed on all hicap mags used in it or a US mfg hicap mag. The bayonett will not lock on as the locking lug on the left side has been ground off.

Not ALL post-ban Maadis have bad looking Chinese parts. My RML Maadi is all Egyptian and has a matching finish.

The Egypt Maadi i purchase was post ban but it did have a nice finish to the wood unlike most. The question i had about the high cap mag turn imto a run around when i call the ATF. I've heard that these type of AK's are turning up more and more with some foreign parts and some US part does this make of a bad design and if so what kind of problems can occur?

Netjunkie,
We were talking about Maddi MISR's which are Maddi receivers made in Egypt with the rest of the rifle parts made in China.
ie. Maddi receiver+Mak-90 parts kit=MISR
The ARM,RPM,RML rifles are all rifles with all parts made and the rifles assembled by the Maddi Co. of Egypt.
