I'm new to this trading on the net. I've got a trade going on and about ready to ship a rifle for a rifle. Not being an FFl dealer, I don't know the legalities of shipping my gun. Do I need to take it to an FFL dealer to ship it out or can I ship it from anywhere as long as I ship it to an FFL dealer? Let me know if you know.

Ship it from a dealer, to a dealer. Expect to pay $20 or so for them to do this.

Oh I have a guy who'll do it for ten bucks. I just wondered if I could ship it myself. Thanx for the answer.

Legally, it is my understanding from reading the law and talking to FFL holders that you can personally ship a gun out of state to an FFL for a sale or trade. However, from a practical standpoint, FFL holders have told me that no shipping company (UPS) will accept a gun for shipment unless you are an FFL holder even though that is not the law. Good luck.

Albert,
I'm not an FFL holder yet I've shipped guns back to the factory for repair. Each time I've used UPS, with no real problems, other than it's better to talk to a supervisor on the phone to let them know what you are shipping. I believe you are required by law to state that you are shipping a firearm. Other than that, UPS does take firearms as shipments.. from non FFL holders! Just be sure you are sending it to either a dealer, gunsmith, or a firearms factory.

I commonly ship my guns to and from school via ups. I have no ffl licience and do not ship it to a dealer. Just as long the gun is in one piece. Do not seperate the stock from the reciever. Beginning on Monday, UPS will no longer ship handguns. To many were getting stolen during transit.
