ive decided to arm after getting real lucky...home invader believed me when i screamed that i had a gun and took off. never again.

problem is i can't decipher the laws...it looks from a strict reading of 'chapt 18' that all "copies" of norinco, ak, polytech steyr aug etc are banned. why are they for sale all over? am i missing something or just naive. is big bro just selective about how they enforce the 1994 'ban' and all these classifieds are people who better not date the sister of any federal employees?????

are 30 round mags legal or not???

18 sez rifles banned.....from importation. The mags are banned......new mfg except for law enforcement,military,and export.
Everything that is already here can stay here.

if your NEW to guns then maybe not get an AK , allow it would be a good choice with more exprience, for simplicity go with a 357 magnum revolver or maybe move up to a 40 cal semi auto glock, S&W, sig, star, colt etc
then maybe go for a 12 ga shotgun with an 18-20 inch barrel and a full tube mag 6-8 rounds then try an AK --this would be my list of recommendations for a first time gun owner needing home protection, if your not a first time shooter and want an AK then go for it, and when it comes to home defense dont forget OTHER solutions to crime--prevention and then less lethal force ,dont want to shoot the guy unless you have to, dont want to end up in court being charged with a crime or have the criminals family suing you for wrongful death bullshit

I agree, the best defense weapon inside the house is a shotgun. Save the AK for when the UN troops come knocking at your door. Jesse has a good point, there is something about that 12Ga. being racked that seems to just make that intruder turn and high tail it!

i posted this under ram6116 but had to re-register due to tech difficulties...thanx for the advice fellas...i joined the nra today and BTW i KNOW how lucky i was but it was either that or throw my boa at him...(can handle h to h combat but no desire to get bitten by hiv+)

i do plan to buy a handgun & possibly a shotgun but have sinking feeling that law enforcement/gun control lobby will continue to pick away and eventually all but slingshots, (no braces for forearm) will be legal. will get what i can when i can.

went to my first gun show today in Charlotte(visiting). anyone ever heard of 'Classical Arms'??? they had some romanian ak's in 'pre ban config with us parts. (yeah, i'm learning). and BTW, tinman99 & bryant, U R both D'MAN!. How do you find time for your jeep?

You are Lucky that the intruder left,, I would suggest a Mossberg 5oo series check out your walmart store they sell the 20 inch
barrel 8 shot for 195.00 plus tax in my area
good deal for a home gun i use 7 shot for home . just the sound of that gun being chambered may scare them away . have a pistol
for back up 9mm to 357 cal , and i would still get a Ak for the home . Just take the time to learn how to use them and if you are married have your wife taught also . Then give your home a good look over to see where you can improve the defence of your home .most thugs dont come thru the front door . if you need help on tranning check out
your local gun clubs/gun shops /join the NRA
they can help on tranning , and last you have all of us here to help you out .

It took me three years just to build the 69 CJ-5 in my very little spare time and about 1 and half years for my CJ-7. Any time I am not studdying or working is spent on drinking or Jeeping and of course shooting. In the summer I usually get the most done however.
