two thousand (& change) years ago in ancient rome the plebians revolted against the patricians and one of the outcomes was 'codified law'. western civilisation has been based on that principal ever since.

then came BATF and 1994.

i am an educated person with some exposure to the law and legal principles, (ok i was a litigation adjuster & my sister is a prosecutor), but these ridiculous regs make my head hurt.

i've come to the conclusion that anyone owning anything besides a single shot .22 is exposed to bankruptcy from legal fees. how many divorced people out there still have their AK's, i'm just curious. in my state(ct) they just passed legislation making it legal for cops to search your home for guns and and seize them and anything else if you are cruel to an animal or deemed violent(bar fights, arguments with neighbors, or maybe you are just weird). opponents are calling it 'the crackpot law'.

OK i'm done venting...i will end this by saying i plan to send a letter to my senator and congressman. everyone who logs on to this board needs to do the same. i know some politicians...they read that stuff and NOTHING has more of an effect than letters from constituents. under the guise of fighting the drug war and teen violence and drunk driving and bad breath this country is turning into a police state. but don't worry, if you don't date a federal bureaucrat's sister you have nothing to worry about....SPEAK UP. oh well, guess i vented some more

yeah, isn't that ironic? the first 'monkey trial' was for teaching evolution...we've come full circle.

Yes, we have some @$$ backwards laws! In fact, *everything* is bound to become illegal at the rate our "representatives" create laws. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/frown.gif

IMHO,,there is only one way we are going to stop all the BS laws,,and its not with any letters or name calling,,weve been doing that for a long time now,,and look where its got US at,,,the snowball is to Big,,,they will and have used their overkill to keep the BS-itting laws going.,,but if only a few ever get the B-lls to do it ,they are history too,,,,,Your home use to be your Castle,,now its their do what they want to whether your there or not. There is only one way to stop it.We have to say No,,and back it up with as little as it takes or as much as it takes to do so.They have too many laws that cover whatever they please,,thats BS.We need to protect our Castles with whatever it takes.,,,It probably will never be the way its supposed to be as we have too many TV controlls and easy chairs,,thats what let it get to where its got.It would be nice to be able to go over to a safe shooting area and shoot what ever weapon you can afford to own and feed,,,thats the way it should be.I would help if it came in my lifetime, but I doubt I live to see it,getting too old.I remember a time when you could do that,,and there are a few places in the US you can do that still,,no not legally though,,,,but the people there will do whatever it takes, including leaving this world to back it up.Back in the early to middle 80's i remember being in a Gunshop in Tn.,,thats when the first Mc Donalds shooting as I recall happened,,they had a petition in that shop for signiatures to be sent to senators or congressman,,,at any rate there were two elderly gentleman in the shop and the shop owner asked the younger of the two if he and his friend would sign the petition,,the younger { Maybe 70's } ask the older one what would happen if they came up on their mountain to get their weapons, the older one ,,well into his 70's or 80's,,said they wouldn't be leaving their mountain. They signed the petition,,,One thing is for sure,,we have too many people robbing and killing innocent people, thats got to be stopped someway,,i don't have that answer,,,I also know that I do not fall under that heading,,,I will act in my house as it is my castle,,I bother no one,,I will let no one bother me in it,and the poor soul that comes in my house to do so will go out on a slabb, and me with him if i have to.My home is my castle, and they can stick all their laws taking that away from me up their backsides.

Reading about the recent shootings, I've come to the conclusion that the way to stop this kind of behavior is to arm everyone who wants to be armed. That way, when some nut decides to go human hunting, the guy next in line can just pull out his piece and pop the bastard. One of the reasons these guys pick schools and workplaces is because they know there are no guns there. Some even advertise that fact with those stupid signs with the gun crossed out in red.

The only new gun law that should be enacted is one that says anyone legally defending themselves or others would be exempt from litigation under the Good Samaritan act.

Sorry, off subject, but that reminds me. I went to the Bengals training camp this year and they had explicit signs saying no firearms allowed. Personally, I think it was to disarm the players. But now with the season going the way it is, maybe they didn't want any of us fans freaking out and blowing them away (which could be considered a mercy killing).
