Is anyone else scraping all that filth off the gas piston with a dental pick?

I just rub mine with a little steel wool and kerosene and it comes off. If you apply a lite coat of oil to the piston head after cleaning it should keep the carbon from sticking so bad.

I use CLP inside and out on every part. The gas piston gets a coat too. I just use a tooth brush after letting it soak for a while after spraying it with CLP. The CLP keeps gunk from sticking so bad on the piston. If I have shoot it a whole lot I use a brass brush on it.

I tried using a brass brush on mine, but there is still some on the end and also in the grooves. I used CLP but I also got Hoppes. Should I try Hoppes and then coat it w/ CLP?
Yes CLP works for me makes scrubbing a lot easier. CLP the piston then next time you clean your rifle spay it with CLP and let it soak for 15-30 minutes them scrub it won't take as much work.
