I just came home with my first AK. A Romainian SAR1...as I always do before the first round is put through it I clean it and do a function check. Something strikes me as unusual and I may be missing something but when I rack the slide the hammer follows the bolt carrier fwd and never locks back to allow you to pull the trigger.
Upon examination it looks as if this was designed this way. As the bolt moves fwd it pushes the hook of the trigger fwd and away from the hammer not allowing it to catch the hammer thus the hammer rides the bolt up and fwd.
Now having said this I got to experimenting with the above configurations operation...while pulling the bolt back and the trigger at the same time, the semi-auto sear will catch the hammer and when the bolt fly's fwd I can let the trigger go and with the bolt out of the way the trigger will catch the hammer as it comes out of the semi auto sear.
Now this doesnt seem like it should be normal operation and I dont think I want to chamber a round and get a slam fire like this, but has anyone else seen this problem before? Am I crazy, is this normal operation? I have owned many rifles before including AR's but his is my first AK. Any help would be appreciated.
