Ok, I know this is a stupid question, but I just got my first ak. How, do you open the cleaning kit? It looks like the cap twists off, but a vice and a pair of channel locks failed to do the trick. Is mine just "frozen"? I've also tried to pull the cap straight off, but that's did work either.
Thanks in advance.

I had to soak mine in kerosene to break down gummed up cosmolene that had it frozen shut.

Sometimes you have to push in a little, then twist it, and pull off after it turns.

I don't even use mine. It's good for a laugh once and a while.

It's a damn handy item if you know how to use it. For the size of the package, it does a incredible amount of jobs. When you are in the field, you can't carry all the tools and cleaning materials that you have at home. Amazingly, everything you would need with the exception of lube and cleaner, is in a small tube in your buttstock.
The last 2 Chinese AK chest pouches I bought had a folded up 8"x8" OD green vinyl cloth in the small pocket beside the mag pouches. One of them had a 8"x10" piece of white cloth in it. I assume it is to cut cleaning patches from. So I took some GI .30 cal patches wrapped them in the vinyl cloth. Filled the plastic oil bottle with CLP and put the bottle in one of the small pouches and the patches in the other. So now with the cleaning kit in the butt of the rifle and rod under the barrel I have everything needed for rifle maintinence in the field.
