Does anyone use LSA oil as a gun lubricant. I see it in all of the army surplus stores but have been hesitant to try it. Anyone have any info on the stuff?
Lubricant,Small Arms it is just plain old thin oil.
Try to find what the military uses now CLP(Cleaner Lubricant Preservative)MIL-L-0063460C 9150-01-053-6688 It does it all and has teflon in it too. If you can't find any surplus CLP the same stuff is sold commerically as "Breakfree CLP"

When ever my unit shot machine guns, we always used LSA-T (teflon). It comes in a large white tube, and starts out as grease but thins out.

JA,
The plain old thin oil you are refering to is marked as PL or Penetrating Lubricant. I have an old can of it I use for honing oil and to wipe down the outside of my guns. Basically, it is 3 in 1 oil. LSA is good, viscous stuff and is at least as good a lube as CLP. It seems to stay put better and have the properties of a light grease. I would have no hesitation using it. It does not have the cleaning properties of CLP, however, and you will need a seperate bore solvent.
I have a small green plastic bottle marked LSA lubricant, small arms with the mil spec numbers printed on the bottle. I noticed that when I used it to lub my rifles that is had the same viscosity as the oil that came in the Outers cleaning kit.

Did you shake the crap out of it first? The stuff I use looks like mayonase.
Yes I did and it is light brown just like regular oil.

Hmmm.....
I am stumped.
There is an ongoing LSA thread at ar15.com right now http://forums.ar15.com/Forum6/HTML/000401.html
All the stuff I have used was white.
The bottle I have is 15 years old. I guess they changed the spec's.
