Can anyone give me details on how to thoroughly clean an AK? Should I be removing the wood on the front every time or how should I clean under it? Little thingas like this.

Thanks!

Hello Pitbull.(My favorite breed)

1-First start by assuring that your rifle is unloaded.

2-Cycle action so the trigger is in the cocked position.

3-Remove the receiver cover.

4-Remove the recoil spring.

5-Remove the carrier and bolt by sliding it rearward and up.

6-Remove the upper handguard containing the gas tube by rotating the small arm on the side of the gas tube.

7-I start with a good spray down of all parts including the bore with something like Gun Scrubber to remove the loose dirt and metal shavings.

8-Get a 30 caliber bronse or stainless brush and give the bore a good scrubbing out with some good solvent or CLP.

9-Get a 12 gauge brush and use it to scrub out the gas tube.

10-Use some CLP or whatever you use and run a few patches up and down the bore to coat the area with a protective layer.

11-Clean all receiver components with a good solvent or CLP to remove all dirt and other crap that will be on the parts.

12-After your whole gun is clean, you will need to apply CLP or something like REM oil to all parts that can rust and all parts that require lubrication.

13-Reassemble the rifle and when reinstalling the carrier/bolt make sure that the bolt is all the way to the rear in the carrier so that it goes back into the receiver with ease.

14-Once your gun is back together, take a cloth or a rag that is coated in CLP or whatever yo use for protection and give the entire outside of your rifle a really wipe down.

That's it!

Be sure to run a dry patch down your bore before you shhot it.

Yes you need to remove and clean the gas tube out every time you clean your rifle. This area is prone to rust.

Take care and I hope that I have not missed anything.

OUT in Vegas!
