Hi all. From various other sources ive been able to establish that my K98 is a '45 Czech built version. Its also been rebarrelled in 7.62x51. But no-where can i find the Star of David mark, or a nazi mark...

More recently its previous owner used as a hunting rifle, fitted a rubber buttpad and tapped it for scope mounts.

I have some pics of the receiver etc. below. Any info welcome.

Welcome to the forums Nyloc, New Zeeland now that's a different place than we usually see members from! :D

It definitely has Czech rampant lion stamps on it. It looks in quite good shape except for the drilling and tapping of the receiver. Did the former owner remove the steel buttplate or just put a slip on rubber recoil pad on the rifle?

I don't believe it's Israeli, I've seen a few of them and they had no Czech crest stamps on them and none said Bruno either wich is a CZ arsenal.

Thanks for the welcome :)

Unfortunately the buttpad is there to stay, but it is a very pleasant rifle to shoot.

1. I have to concur with Shultz, most of the Israeli ive seen were rebored for NATO rounds, this is Czech and a nice looking one to boot.

Isn't 7.62x51 a NATO round? My 98k reciever looked just like hiswith the big 7.62 on it before it craked. And I was told it was Israeli?

Not all Israeli's have the star of David (those are on postwar FN weapons). Most reworks had 7.62 stamped in the receiver ring AND IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BUTT. (NO PIC). Many had a small Star of David stamped on the left side of the receiver ring (where the Beschusstempel was ground off), keep in mind that Israel was buying every weapon that they could find at the time, including post-war Czech weapons, but most of these have stamped triggerguards. Just out of curiosity, do the serials on your triggerguard and floorplate match the receiver serial?

I have three. I have an FR-8 7.62x51mm which is the .308 Win. and an Oberndorf 6.5x55mm, and a Yugo PREDUZECE 44 in 8mm. Hi bear8mm, this the OLD Mauserman18655, no longer use that name anymore.

No numbers on the stock at all (Or have been removed). And the serial on the floorplate does not match, although the rest of the numbers do.

You definately have an Israeli Mauser, it could be the long lost brother to mine.
Your receiver was made in 1945 by Waffenfabrik Brunn AG, Brno, Czechoslovakia.During the war their receivers were maked with code(s) "945", "dot", "dou", and "swp".
After the war the Czechs still had tons of parts and complete rifles. They continued to build them right into the 1950's.They also refurbished the German made ones by removing the waffenampts and remarking with the Czech lion and Czechoslovakian arms manufacture on the side rails.
Like one of the posts said above, the Israelis were buying what they could and from who ever would sell to them.Thats were the Czechs came in by selling them the former German army weapons they still had.
By 1949 the Israelis had bought an entire Kar98k factory line to make their own rifles. They only made a few before switching over to semi-auto rifles. They used the factory to refurbish and rebarrel the German and FN produced guns they had to 7.62mm.
Your rifle had it's barrel replaced in 1957 by the date in the picture. I hope this helps some.

it makes a great shooter, with ammo so readily available.
