Hmmmm looks like the Russian Wolf Ammo 5.45x30 is loaded with boxer primers as opposed to the berdan primers they put in everthing else.
Anyone ever loaded steel case ammo? Is resizing .223 the only source for bullets?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I reloaded some .223 S&B boxer primed cases and they functioned fine. Also reloaded some berdan primed 7.62x39mm with berdan primers and they functioned fine too. I have not seen any .221" bullets advertised. But calling Lee and special ordering a bullet lube&size kit in .221" is only $25. It takes about 15 minutes to resize a box of 100 bullets. I just touch the lube in a can of Imperial sizing die wax with my forefinger and thumb. Rub them togeather and then coat each bullet by rubbing between my fingers before putting them in the die.
Have you deprimed one of the Wolf cases to see if it is indeed boxer primed?

No I hav't deprimed one, but I did see it on the wolf ammo website. Actually it was a magazine artical about wolf ammo they had posted. One of the things they mentioned was the the 5.45 had a boxer primer and the rest did not. Which I find weard. Ill have to pull one of mine I guess.

JA,
What bullets do you resize for the 5.45mm? And the dies to reload them?
I'm thinking about getting the romak2 and I'm a reloader, can't stand having a caliber in which I have to buy ammo each time to shoot.

Hornaday 68gr BTHP match bullets. Because it is the same weight and length as the Russian and Romanian ammo's bullets. The FL die set is RCBS group G # 56065 = $86.85 from www.huntingtons.com (http://www.huntingtons.com)
When you order the dies be sure to get some CCI # 41 military small rifle primers. The primer cup is thicker/harder than CCI and Winchester standard small rifle primers that gave me slam fires in a Romanian CUR-2 rifle.

WOW thats expensive! At that price it would be cheaper just to buy the ammo in 1000rd cases for 99 bucks and just pull the powder and reload.

Did you ever pull a bullet to see if it is boxer primed?
Exspencive, yes but the only hollw point ammo imported is RWS at $26 per 50+shipping.
There is no soft point ammo imported in 5.45x39mm. My next batch of 5.45x39mm reloads will be with Nosler 60 grain partition bullets for deer hunting. These reloads will be even more exspencive because the Nosler bullets are $2 more per box than the Hornady 68gr bthp but there is only 50 per box.

id like to see some US manufactures of this round, and maybe chamber a bolt action rifle with this caliber, it might make a good varmint rifle, could even use it in a AR15 possibly with stock AR mags

and on the 8th day GOD made the AK-47 and saw that this was good
talk is cheap, but bullets are even Cheaper!!!
