Here's a pic of the com block ammo cases that Century is selling. Two tins per case. One tin = $33.87 shipped. So I got all this ammo (4 tins = 1360 rounds= 340 rounds per tin) for $137 and gave the UPS driver a hernia to boot :D
Someone here said the boxes are stamped made in Albania. I haven't opened the crates and I can't read the Cryllic on the cases, but I notice the crates say Model 53, which is the Chinese designation for their M44. Since Albania was in bed with the Chicoms...there you have it. I'd like to get an Albanian Chicom M44.
I have had pretty good luck with Albanian ammo personally.

That's Albanian. Can you post a pic of the tins please when you open the crates?

w2k, to get to the tins you basically have to destroy the boxes. I guess I can take each nail out or something though. I like the bright green. :)
ED4, I ordered it last week, I'm sure they still have some. It will be on thier site. AMM867 or something like that- 340 round tins $33.87, two tins = 1 crate.

Sure. I'll probably take the tins out this weekend to economize on storage space.

Redstar, you telling me you can't pry one side of the box and release the cans, without destroying the boxes? The damned boxes look collectible and real handy for storing stuff. .02
I'm going to have to get at least one, for the collectors angle. Hmmm, people doubted me when I said there were Albanian SKS rifles. Hmmm.
Just read Cruffler.com's review today, and the buy meter was very high.
LOL.

Century always nails the lids down on wood crates of ammo to prevent them from popping open in transit. You need a claw hammer or small wrecking bar to get under the nail heads to pry them up otherwise the case tears away when you try to pry the lid up. Most of these cases are very soft pine woods and they crack and tear easily.
Big crates like this look neat but they sure are heavy most times.
Redstar, take a picture of the cans and the ammo or at least give us a report on the ammo. Is it brass cased or is it steel cased. Remember the brass cased Albanian ammo was problematic for many Mosin Nagant rifles. Many wouldn't close on the rounds.

Geez , I hope not:eek: I got 5 crates of that ammo from Century last week !
Oh , by the way , it came just like Redstar's , with just a sticker slapped on the wood crate:D

I don't have a problem with the Albanian in my M91, M44 or M91/30's but some won't chamber in my 27's and probably 75% won't chamber in my M39.
I'm wanting to order some. But. I don't see it on sale.
This is the only 7.62X54R I saw that is surplus:
COM BLOC 7.62x54R (149 GR.) $43.87
20 rds./package, 440 rds./tin. Berdan primed, corrosive. 1980’s mfr.
Sold in tins only.
AM868
That was on their site and I didn't find any in their monthly specials page.

Then it's not on their site, I called when I heard about it here and my rep knew what I was talking about.

I have a question about this and probably all the 7.62X54R ammo. The lady who used to run a great local gun shop told me that all Commie Bloc ammo in this caliber is mildly corrosive, even if it says "non-corrosive." I don't want my M44 to become a barrelless stock and action, LOL. Does it take soap and water to clean it out of the bores, like black powder did?

After shooting I spray some Windex with ammonia down the bore and on the bolt face. I also run a few patches soaked with Windex down the bore. Then clean and oil as usual. You can use hot soap and water if you choose. Hoppes #9 is supposed to work as well. Really any product with ammonia should neutralize the corrosive salts in the primers.

I stopped at a store that I usaully don't frequent today. They had several crates of this ammo for sale. $197.00+tax per crate. Let's see that's what $130 markup on a $68 (delivered) crate of ammo. You can see why I seldom frequent this place. On the flip side I guess I should say that they had some Milsurps that were not too badly priced. I guess the ammo is were they make their money. 500 rd cases of 7.62x39 were about $109 IIRC. That's $218 + tax for 1K rds that CAI is selling for around $75.00 delivered. Jesus, are times that hard?
