View Full Version : Double fireing?

I have a AKM-47S, in 7.62 x 39,every trigger pull produces the double or triple fire and sometimes it doubles then the pin hits the primer and doesn't have enough power to get the primer fired. So I have to eject a good round. I put the same round in and it fires the second time. This is good ammo so its not that. I looked at the triger group and the only thing I can see wrong with it is the hammer is worn. How do I get it to quit double tapping?Could it be the sear spring? Information would be greatly appreciated!
Also show me which parts are what because I am not gunsmith literate YET! Thanks

1- what brand ammo?
2- check your firing pin is it sticking out of the bolt face? If so can you push it into bolt with your finger easly? Does it move back and forth freely?

I use Russian and Federal new and recently manufactured ammo and the pin moves freely. I think mabe the previous owner might have modified the sear so i am going to replace it and see if it works

Glowfinger, did you ever figure out the probelm with the double firing?? I have similar problems myself, all parts seem to be working fine, confused here.

Sounds like you guys might be getting slamfire, never heard of it on an AK but I know it happens on SKS's, check the little tail on the semiauto catch and make sure someone has not been playing with it. They might have ground it down a little to get quicker trigger pull but to much will cause it to double fire if you don't release the trigger quick enough.

I've experienced a slam fire with my Legend AK. It was the way I pulled the trigger. I didn't bring it all the way back all the time. The recoil of the weapon and the position of the trigger allowed the hammer to fall for the second shot. It turned a few heads on the range... But it only happened once. I'd say someone tried to convert your AK...

Sounds like a weak seer spring or an odd shaped seer is causing the hammer to slip off the seer and ride the bolt carrier. The seer sits inside the trigger.

I found out what it was! It was a combination of a modified sear, which I replaced and I found out it was how I held the trigger like the other guy said and didnt let it go all the way letting the sear catch so it allowed the hamer to fall. Then I had it happen again and I cleaned the tar piss out of it and it is fires flawlessly now. SOOOOOO moral of this story is make sure you have good parts in your trigger group and practice good trigger pull and CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN your guns after every time you go shooting and you should have no problem!

Thanks, I think my problem could be a conbination of poor ammo and trigger pull. I need to move my trigger finger out out of the way.
