I made the mistake of using carbuerator cleaner on my SLR-95. I sprayed it on the bolt carrier and the black paint turned purplish and when I wiped it with a rag, some of the paint came off down to the bare metal. I was close to tears! ;-)

Going forward, I will use WD-40 instead. I plan to flush the barrel with WD-40 before cleaning. Do you guys think this is effective or a waste of product? My take is that it will remove and loosen most of the fouling and make cleaning the bore quicker and easier. Your thoughts on this topic is appreciated.

I use CLP and rinse it out with brake parts cleaner. This has had no affect on the paint on gun or stocks.
For get the wd-40 it is a waste. I clean my gun with CLP,rinse with brake parts cleaner, and apply coat of CLP for protection.

Thanks JA. I was afraid that brake parts cleaner would also damage the paint. I will try your method next week after I blast a few hundred rounds. :-)

I use carbeurator cleaner for all of my guns. I use it to degrease the entire gun before I coat the whole thing with Boeshield T9.
I use CLP for the bore and other misc parts.
