I dont have a standard Ak cleaning kit yet, I have the basic Walmart kit with a 7.62 bore brush purchased on the side. What would be the best way to clean the gas tube? Does an Ak cleaning kit come with a special brush? Does this require completely taking off the gas tube or can I leave it on. The kit I have is Outers brand w/ Nitro cleaner and Gun oil. Is this good for total gun cleaning and the gas tube? Thanks to everyone in advance you know who you are.

Hello Nemesis,
The way that I have always cleaned my gas tubes is first do remove it from your gun and then use a 12 Ga. brass brush and HOT SOAPY water and give it a good scrubing then follow up with a very good coat of your favorate oil, I like to use Break Free.
It is always a good idea to completly dissamble your rifle every time that you clean it and always give all metal parts(including the bore) a coating of Break Free or whatever you use.
Hope that this helps? OUT

Ditto on the 12 ga brush but I differ on the soap and water. I just use CLP works great less messy. Then coat all parts of gun with it. Clean up will be easy next time as CLP won't let gunk stick to gas system parts.

Hi, I'm new here and I recently bought a Norinco 84-s.

I have a question about these gas tubes too.

When I first got the rifle, I took it all apart to see how it works. Now I'm not sure how the little lever for the gas tube is supposed to be oriented.

Does it stay horizontal? Or do you swing it all the way down until the bump goes in the little hole?

My lever is SO hard to move, I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for any help.

JeffG,
The bump should go in the hole. This is a locking device to keep it from moving while being fired. It should be tight and hard to move.

Or just break ( my own Type 84 experiences )
