I took my gun completely apart, and now, when I cycle the action, it stays open. If I whack the top of the action, it shuts. What's going on, how do I fix this?
Hello,
Are you saying that it did not do this before you took apart you rifle?
I really can't see you doing anything to cause this. Sounds like your carrier/bolt has a little too much metal in certain places.
Not to worry, it will still function when fired.
Hope that this helps, OUT in Vegas.

I've got a Maddi ARM that does the same thing. I just lightly bump the charging handle with the heel of my palm and it chambers just fine. It has had several 1000 rounds thru it without any failures to feed or fire. This only occurs when I pull the handle back and hold it. When inserting a fresh mag I pull it back and let it go as soon as it reaches the rear. If this is done quickly in one fluid motion it does not stick in the rear position.
It is from the bolt carrier brushing up against the the wall of the sight block gas tube hole. It should not cause any problems I use to be able to keep my SA-85M open that way when I wanted to keep the bolt open.

I put the cover over the action and it shuts now. Strange.

My SLR does this. If you look at the bolt carrier it has a little triangular niche on the bottom. This catches but I really havent taken the time to understand how it works. This is supposed to be normal and to facilitate cleaning and only engages when the bolt is pulled back slowly. Though a little jar and it flies forward so watch the fingers.

I know this thread is a month old, but I figured I'd add my experience too. I just replaced the internals in my ROMAK and found that the new hammer has just a tad too much metal on the top.. it hung up the bolt carrier just enough to keep the action from reliably closing, even when I pounded on the bolt handle with my hand..
So I shaved some metal off the hammer, polished it up again, and it works fine now.
However, going by the old adage.. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If your rifle fires fine with live ammo, don't sweat it if the bolt carrier hangs up during slow manual cycling. Just my humble opinion.
